Giant Sky Carp

Post by Dale »

Visual art, loosely defined, by yours truly. This is the second in a series. My middle daughter owns the only known print of the first item from this series, "Giant Sky Carp over Unknown City."

More carp nightmares. I found this not-very-high-resolution image of the first in the Giant Carp series.

Can't quite be sung to the tune of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", just imagine if John Lennon had been shown this picture instead.

How about 'Guppy in the Sky with Diamonds?'

Is anyone familiar with the cartoonist Guindon? He was into carp, in fact one of his collections was entitled, "The world according to Carp." On the cover of said volume was a cartoon with a giant carp in the sky. Two people were looking up at it, with one saying to the other, "That's not the Goodrich Carp, Goodrich doesn't have a carp."

(For you who aren't Americans and/or not of advanced years, there was an advertising campaign in the '70's in which BF Goodrich was taking advantage of the occasional confusion between their name and Goodyear. One person would claim to see the Goodrich Blimp, and another would say, "That's not the Goodrich Blimp, Goodrich doesn't have a blimp.")

Yes, what a wonderful sense of humor Guindon has. One of my favorite cartoons of his was a scene of a tree in the foreground, with a pear-shaped checkered-plaid bird sitting in the branches, while in the background two hunters were walking toward the tree. The caption read:

"... another reason why Polyester went extinct".
