Being in college, mac and cheese is definatly a staple in my diet. When I was younger, my aunt used to make it for us with hotdogs in it. It tasted great.

My ex told me that when she and her twin sister were children, her grandmother (Mamaw) made M&C for them because they told her they liked it. Mamaw wasn't much of a cook (make enough for the field hands, the rest is details) and she had never made M&C before, so she boiled up the pasta, added the butter and powdered cheese stuff and served it up. It was "nasty" (her word), but they didn't have the heart to tell her so they ate it. So she made it the next time they visited. And the next. I don't know how they broke the cycle, but that is a perfect example of why it just doesn't pay to be polite sometimes.

Back on topic - I like it according to the recipe on the box with a little pepper added (comfort food par excellence) but it's fat & carb content is such that I indulge but rarely.

I just love Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I think it is much better than any home made kind I've had. It's so creamy. It was only 29 cents a box when I was in college. There was only one kind---the bright orange kind. Now all the colors and shapes of macaroni are bewildering. My husband gets it for a treat for me.

I've never had any packaged macaroni and cheese. My wife makes it. We don't have it often but I love it. Particularly where the cheese gets crusty and chewy next to the inside of the cooking pot.

Well I voted before knowing that macaroni & cheese existed that way. I just know home made pasta (macaroni or other) + cheese (parmiggiano, mozzarella, swiss cheese or french emmenthal).

It is the base of my alimentation : I eat like a student, my friends say...

It's very long: you have to find durum wheat floor, mix it with eggs, water and salt, knead it during hours, then use a special machine to create the correct traditionnal italian shape... My ex girlfriend did that very well.

But that's not what I meant, of course... ;)

PS: I love your fish.

Well, it was more of a question addressed to everybody.

I've never made noodles, but I have made cheese before.

Thank you. I copied it from some random website. :P

Interesting that this issue would come up today, the birthday of John Elbow, the inventor of elbow macaroni. I imagine there's a lot of confusion in Ireland between piob uilleann and pasta uilleann.

Can't stand the m & c stuff. If I'm going to load up an fattening stuff, its going to be poutine every time.

The flat noodle is easy to make and great for a desperate search through the cupboards for something to eat (all you need is egg and flour). Then you are just one step away from other dishes.

Maybe you could get some kids involved.

I haven't eaten Mac n' Cheese for a while . . . used to LOVE Amy's non-dairy verson but I ate it too often and got sick of it.
Velveeta's verson is the best, but I've only had it once or twice.

I'm not a big fan of macaroni and cheese. I am partial to Ramen (or similar) noodles with frozen veggies as a cheaper (imagine that) and healthier alternative.
