A rather odd question....
This has been bugging me for a while now...
When making a Cafetierre(French Press?) of coffee for two,is the first cup poured weaker than the second?

D.

I think it is. The second cup contains more bits that get through the filter and so its more bitter or strong. Try putting more water (and correspondingly a little more coffee) than you need for two cups. You should be able to leave the dregs behind that way.
Otherwise go to Starbucks.

Umm, yeah, it could be. Are you pouring both at the same time?dubhlinn wrote:This has been bugging me for a while now...

Slan,
D.
Try pouring a half-cup in each cup, then top it off. That should even it out.

No, I pour the first cup first and then I pour the second cup right after thatLambchop wrote: Umm, yeah, it could be. Are you pouring both at the same time?
The reason I asked is because Mrs.D. likes a weak cup of coffee so I give her the first one and I have the second...I just wondered was there any difference between them.

Why don't you taste both of them and report back to us with your findings?

Well, sadly, I do not use a French press, so I am unable to taste-test for you. I use a French drip. If you used a French drip, you would not have this problem.
I also use Creole coffee with chicory, so even if I had this problem it would be impossible to notice it. The resulting beverage is toxic no matter how you make it.
Has your wife been complaining about it being too strong? If so, I recommend that we send you some Starbucks. A sip of that and she'll be grateful for whatever you serve her thereafter--as long as it's not Starbucks.

All joking aside...
I was genuinely trying to figure out if one was stronger than the other, idle curiousity more than anything else. Some strange notions pass through the little dubhlinn mind from time to time.
The mention of Chicory, which I cannot bear, brought to mind some odd concoction I remember from years back.It was a highly concentrated treacle like liquid that came in a tall narrow bottle. It was supposed to be chicory flavoured coffee that was made by adding boiling water to a teaspoonful of this gunk.I've not seen it in years now.
