Celebrity Wedding

Post by Patrick D'Arcy »

I just have to share with ya'll this little tale. I played a "celebrity wedding" on Saturday which was pretty bloody fancy I have to say. Even I recognised some of the guests. Bob Shriver was the groom (Maria's brother aka a Kennedy). That was nice and there were lashings of Kennedy's and secret service folks there... also (and more impressive in my view) Russell Simmons.... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannyway....

Bono had been invited to attend but couldn't make it so he (Bono) hired me as a surprise in his place... I bet they were surprised... I think it was of the nice variety too :) It was definitely a big woop-di-doo for me as I'm a tad fond of U2 :)

Anyway... Hollywood blah di blah....

Patrick.

Very nice actually... some fancy restaurant in Santa Monica catered it.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I played for my cat yesterday. She slept through the whole thing.

Wow! Your cat is really tolerant of the pipes.

L.A. is like that, though, ya know. All kinds of famous actors hanging out at sessions & stuff.

That is rather cool that Bono hired you Patrick. You are now an official celebrity :)

Where did you play - the ceremony or the reception? And what did you play - what pieces?

Never have I seen such a grotesque display of name dropping...

You should check out the U2 parody on the Ben Stiller show - they only did 13 shows, about 12 years ago, it's on DVD now. "U2 - The Early Years." Ruben Kincaid from the Partridge Family is their Manager, getting them the only gig he can find - a bar mitzvah. "Play the blues, Edge!" (Edge plays Hava Nagila).

Sounds like it was fun Patrick. Maybe you will be playing in U2 next. That would be cool.

Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

We need to talk Tommy..... I have needs as an artist and I have to be sure they can be filled before I can commit to any future engagements

I just played a rake of reels, jigs, waltzy things and a few airs off the top of my head.... went over well. Played in the hallway of the house... felt like I had been transported in time, very resident piper sort of situation... loads of people came up and said "I love the uilleann pipes" pronounced it right and everything.... pretty cool :) I played the Holy Order and they worked perfectly, of course.... I would expect nothing less.
Never have I seen such a grotesque display of name dropping...
I know.... thanks

Now I have to go.... the phone is ringing... it's probably my agent

Mr. D'Arcy- the case of Chimay you ordered is here and we've taken all the blue labels off the bottles as you've requested. Oh, and there are only green, white and orange M&Ms in the green room.
