hey gordon, thanks for stopping by. good to see your post. come on back. as you can see, i believe we now have an empty (but very hot) seat now...Gordon wrote:I left the forum many months ago, for many reasons, mostly personal, but Andrew was one of my last straws. I occasionally checked in to see what's up, without logging in, and was surprised to find this thread. Nice to see him gone.
Probably won't be back much, anyway, but, while I'm here:

This is probably very true. I think the problem lies in not understanding or accepting and then not being able to ignore another person who has a very special way of making his point.sturob wrote:Henke, I guess Andrew should have learned how to put smilies in what he says . . . then everything would have been fine.

Not true of course. I am not baiting anyone and I am certainly not trying to start a flame-war or anything like that. I am speaking my mind. Another person who was speaking his mind has been excluded from the forums, because other people couldn't handle it. Sure he did it with a bit of sarcasm, but normal adults should be able to handle that.Cynth wrote:Kelpie, these people are baiting you. Just leave. They see perfectly well what you are talking about. They are entertained (they have said so themselves) by meanness, sarcasm, "small" personal attacks. There is no talking to people like that. They are hoping to make you angry by pretending they don't know what you are talking about. Then they will be even more entertained. Deny them the pleasure of the conflict they are seeking.
I honestly didn't see anything in the linked thread that I found overly offensive. I have a hard time understanding why anyone couldn't handle that. I feel sorry for the person.
I have to agree with the fact that nobody has the whole picture here. Everything I'm saying here is just from my opinion, what I have seen or heard. I have my view of the situation, just like everyone else. I've seen a lot of the things you're talking about, and they did not at all justify Andrews banning in my opinion.

ectophonic,
andrew did stop. oddly, every thread that has had posts by him, has ended. correct? and not every thread has posts by him either. which can be a sign of an attempt to stop. correct?
if you want to attempt to stop feeling insulted, change your opinion, base it on facts, not feelings. own your own feelings.
'cause of offence':
i felt insulted when a teacher informed me that my algebra grade, in fact, was not passable. after all, i had actually thought i was going to pass. so, did he cause offence? according to my state of mind at the time, yes. did i feel offended? yes. was it a real feeling? yes. did i feel threatend? yes. conclusion: that basmati, he actually flunked me! talk about degrading!
i trust dale's decision was based on some actual infraction that is not public domain. i am speculating it left him with no alternative. sort of like an 'either/or' proposition or an agreement or understanding between the two of them, that was violated. and not based on vanity.
i'll miss andrew, from my interactions with him, he seemed to be a jolly goodfellow. battling cancer i believe, does anyone know? i wish him well and hope for the best.

He talked about it. Having had to undergo 4 days of preventive chemotherapy after an accident in a hospital, I can only imagine what it is after a few weeks. Even if illness is not an excuse for bad behavior, I think it explains a lot of things.rama wrote:i'll miss andrew, from my interactions with him, he seemed to be a jolly goodfellow. battling cancer i believe, does anyone know? i wish him well and hope for the best.
Didn't want to post here, I didn't feel old enough in the forums. I just wanted to say I'll miss his posts. All the PM I had with Andrew were friendly and interesting. (I want his F Rudall!)
There are probably a lot of things outside the board, that we don't know.

some things i know i don't know - like algebra, irish tested viagra (the hard choice), cancer, etc.
and then of course we enter that other domain - things we don't actually know that we don't know...do you know what i mean?
well i didn't really know that, i just thought i did.

hey rama, stop confusing me, I can barely focus on climbing the tree to get my bananas!
yes - Andrew is battling a gnarly cancer, and maybe it make him a bit more cynical? but I think thats not the point.
Once we start cutting people off, when does it end? Andrew had a lot to say about flutes, more that most of us, we do not need to read anyones posts if they are offensive to us,
but to decide that the rest should not be able to read then?
Whats next? monkeys? I better get that banana fast !!

Best of luck to Andrew; I wish him more happiness in the future than he seems to have had of late.
I also wish Dale well, and am grateful to him for providing this board in the first place .... especially when we can be such a tough bunch of cats to ride herd on.
Peace,
cat.

I am sad when any voice is silenced.
However, Dale doesn't exactly have a history of going on rampages and banning hither and thither; in fact, I know of only three people Dale has ever banned in the history of these boards, and one of those has been back for quite some time.
This is Dale's board. His rules are the ones that apply. It's as though we are guests in his home.
He's a good host. I trust his judgement.

There is a bit of everything here... We all have to separate the wheat from the chaff, chiff from the fipple, etc.Nanohedron wrote:I find this to be a bit of a blanket statement.
