Royce on clips and snips

Post by BigDavy »

Hi Ausdag

Good idea. Royce has criticised other people's playing based on clips, let us see how his playing stands up.

David

P.S. Joseph keep up the good work.

Why do we waste time and forum space on this topic? It's got little if anything to do with piping. Why not take it to the virtual pub?

It is already there, sort of, posted by Royce. But I agree, why waste your time on this topic. I for one, will do so no longer.

That's right! If you want the forum to stay open, there can't be trouble.

Solution....

Post by Davey »

..I don't mean to perpetuate this nonsense, but I've got a lovely solution.

Joe will be attending the same Tionol as Mr. Lerwick (I assume he'll be in attendance? he lives in the same town etc) Why don't we have an old fashioned "play-off" Eh? tune for tune? Pick yer weapon. I've heard both men play before,it would be quite interesting to have a this duel.

I could even record it on my Edirol to share with the wider community.

Eh?

Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Personally speaking (or writing if one wishes to be pedantic), Royce does write quite a few valid posts except of course when his words are barbed and the intent is there to cause insult, intentionally or otherwise. In addition, I find some of his posts quite long winded so I admit to not reading them word for word as it were , so I may sometimes miss his intent. However, that does seem to be Royce's style i.e. to court controversy. Unfortunately(in terms of our probationary period here), there are some who "rise to the bait" and so the flame issues and inuendo begin all over again.
I would like to suggest the following: If we ignore the posts in their entirety posted by Royce that contain the slightest hint of malice or a sense of fair play then we infact starve his ego and I would imagine that a one way conversation would sone become boring; even for Royce.
Throwing him off the list would achieve little as he would (and has) soon be back in a different guise. However, his writing style is typically "Royce" and he would soon be spotted and so the cycle would continue.
Therefore, this is my last mention of Royce or indeed to enter into any debate in his future posts until he abides by the rules of the forum. I hope of course that he does "toe the line" as I have found some of his earlier posts both witty and informative. However, should he not do so then I for one will desist from reading his future comments.

What? Are you the only person on the whole web that hasn't at least once spent time in RoyceWorld?

Yeah, UK Joe, you've about nailed it.
See, Royce is no dummy. He's been around the block, clearly, and knows plenty about traditional music and piping. That's part of his online persona that's enjoyable and to be respected. Then there's this other part that loves to f%^k with people and is real good at it. Spelling aside, he's a dab hand with the language, possessed of a genuine gift for insinuation, innuendo and very sophisticated speculative character assassination. He's apparently got all the time in the world to peck away at his keyboard and will do so until every last word that crosses his mind is recorded for public view. He also believes that abrasive and derisive assessments of others' musicianship is some kind of baptism into the "authentic" musical tradition--pretending not to understand the difference between words delivered by a friendly fellow musician over a pint and words put on display by a faceless stranger. Lastly, he's got the victim mentality, sees himself as a truthsayer unfairly persecuted by big brotheresque internet moderators. Editing his posts or trying to lock him out of a forum just reinforce this complex.
He's just a big kid, folks. He wants attention and he knows how to get it. Keep giving it to him and you'll keep getting the treatment. He's loving every minute of this dumbass soap opera.
