If you see me coming down the road and playing whistle-don't worry.
I have my left knee on the tilt back wheel and right foot on the throttle,
and both eyes on the road. Pilots fly airplanes with their feet all the time.
Now how many of you can say that you have never played their whistle in a traffic jam?

When driving that is all a person should be doing.

Heck, I've written two reels on whistle while in traffic jams! Thus Slow Road to East China.

Or until you drive 2 blocks in Spokane, hit a pothole, and wind up with the whistle jammed into your teeth!

Nothing like going down the highway at 70 mph and playing along with Lunasa on a LBW.

I also use the left knee to the steering wheel technique..

I actually do my daily commute with my whistle ready, though I only play at lights and when the stop-and-go is at "stop".

It seems to reduce the stress level - though I worry about the side effects: when I'm working on a new tune, I keep hoping for red lights.

Same here. I would never whistle as I drove.
Only at lights or when stationary due to congestion.
This is the highest meaning of traffic jam, see?

Seems a bit heavy handed. I don't recall any prohibition of whistling in my Driver's Ed class. Of course that was 40 yrs ago and whistle appreciation has grown over the years. Next we know, you'll want to ban playing any musical instruments while driving. I suppose piano accordians are prohibited because they're too loud and overbearing.

I think Dale is right. It takes phenomonally poor judgment to allow oneself to be so distracted while operating a vehicle that could kill you or others. Not to mention it is selfish, for the same reason. And really, what point have we reached as a civilization and as people that we can't stand silence for half an hour or more while we commute? I think many have such empty minds they can't bear the silence of their own thoughts, so they fill their heads with other's thoughts and music as often as possible.

Or with whistles, when the airbag deploys.
