A Kinder, Gentler Nation

Post by Lambchop »

The United States Secret Service, which is charged with protecting the president and other dignitaries, has been proud to assume the temporary duty of guarding this mother duck and her 9 eggs.

The duck nested on a mulch pile outside the Treasury Building in Washington, DC. The eggs are expected to hatch at the end of the month, at which time the family will be relocated nearer water.

Well it's good to see the Treasury Building being used for something again since the Bush Administration has emptied it.

Reminds me of the duck who hatched her eggs in my tiny garden, and I had to carry the ducklings in a bucket down to a pond in the park.

I got some curious looks parading down the road with a squeaking bucket and a duck following a few yards behind, but my dignity was never tarnished.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that schwing

Looks like a mallard hen. I wonder if the drake is allowed to visit. Given that she's utilizing Federal property without authorization and is possibly from another country, I expect that upon hatching she'll likely be evicted and either deported or detained for further questioning. Ducks are notorious and known to fly throughout rural America inspiring other wise law abiding citizens to take up arms.

She looks very cute, but these are uncertain times.

Sounds good. It should go in a set with Geese in the Bog.

Here's a bit of Latin for you. Can anyone translate?

I see she's set up some yellow flags around her house. Nice to see she supports our service men and women.

Best wishes,

Shouldn't that be "You can't conceive of down unless you are aware of ducks"?

Just asking.

That is no ordinary Mallard - you are looking at the Mallard Imaginaire, a play by Moliere. In it he quoted Cicero -
"Caesar adsum jam forti
Brutus aderat
Caesar sic in omnibus
Brutus sic in at"
Which inspired Carolan's deaf brother Niall "Pardon"Carolan to set the verse, not to music, but to a painting. The wall in question was pulled down as part of the Sanitary Purges of the late 19th Century, round about the time of the Tuileries (fr. meaning, literally, toiletries) and long before Roger Basement, the underground fighter, started the Easter Rising or "Raison D'Etre". Enough yet?
