I've owned more than I currently own, though my collection is growing again. Bear in mind that I'm working from memory, and in no particular order.
I currently have an acorn, clarke original, sweetone, meg, feadog, feadog pro, McHaffie, O'Brien, Copeland, Copeland Low, Waltons, Soodlums, Freeman Tweaked Feadog, Freeman Tweaked Shaw, Hoover PVC, Hoover Whitecap, Chieftain low D, Kerry Songbird low D, generic Indian bamboo D, Asarkar B, Drunken Monkey D (my own copper whistle, which looks as if a drunken monkey made it with a hammer), Abell, Burke Al-Pro, Sweetheart Professional, Greenwood, Generations in various keys (F in nickel is my favorite), Oak, Feadan.
I also *used* to have: Silkstone Alloy (x2--one sold to Glauber, the other to Whitmores), Silkstone PVC D and Bb, Busman, Thin Weasel, Sweetheart standard model, Susatos in lots of keys, a Weltmeister, an Alba SE, a Laughing Whistle, and a Dixon.
I've played (on whistle tours, for instance) but didn't get to keep: an Alba low D, a Syn low D, a syn high D, all the other whistles Jerry tweaks, and what I think I remember as a Weston copper whistle with a prototype head where we were asked to send our reviews about the whistle privately for maker feedback. But I'm not sure that it was a Weston..that's just what I seem to remember.
I've touched briefly: An Overton low D, Howard low D, a water weasel, Burke composite, and a Sindt.

Well, the higher notes of a Susato are normally very harsh so I experimented several ways to make it sound softer. I'm not going to explain exactly what I did because I'm still experimenting and because I have plans to become a whistle maker myself , and besides it wouldn't be very easy to explain it in writing. But I'll just say that I "altered" the labium.buddhu wrote:How modified?Flageolet wrote:Modified Susato.
It lost a tiny little bit of volume in general, but it was worth it.
Today I bought a feadog D so now I add that to my Walton, Clark, Generation, Susato, Howard, my pvc, copper, bamboo, a bamboo panpipe, Trophy and a R------r.

I recommend the blu-tac / putty tweak for your Feadog. Makes quite a difference - smooths out some of the squawk that some find with this whistle and sometimes helps firm up the bell note. Makes the Feadog a fraction sweeter too.Tommy wrote:Today I bought a feadog D so now I add that to my Walton, Clark, Generation, Susato, Howard, my pvc, copper, bamboo, a bamboo panpipe, Trophy and a R------r.
The nickel Feadogs are really excellent trad whistles once tweaked with putty of some kind.
And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.

Love those glasses Buddhu, where can I get a pair and how do we pronounce Buddhu? I have been useing clay in my waltons and generations but tomorrow I will brake down and buy some blu tac for my new Feadog or fa dough g. I did not have to say Feadog at the store it was hanging on a rack.

I have: (D) Acorn, Feadog, Copeland, Oak, Clarke
(C) Oak, Dixon
(Eb, F) Generation
(B) Burke
But the only ones I ever really play are the D Oaks and the C Dixon.
The Eb, F, and B are just for learning tunes off of recordings, the Acorn & Feadog are my in-the-car whistles, and the Copeland is my whistle for slow airs or loud sessions like the one at our tionol with 6 pipers!
