More proof that the average 8 year old is smarter than us.

The volume of friendship
by Alex House

Lord, make a factory of peace,
Make more hope,
Hate, the least.
Make war as small as a speck of sand
And terrorism a wick on a candle that burns to ashes.
And make love and peace as big as a skyscraper.
And hope like a mountain that's 1,000 feet tall.
And make the volume of friendship be so loud
It shakes the ground.

Alex House lives in Upton, Massachusetts. He wrote this poem in Sunday school on Feb. 16, 2003, when he was 8 years old.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I think a good many of us want that, Dale. It's just a whole lot easier said than done, alas.

Children like Alex give me great hope for the future.

I guess we should consider ourselves fortunate, we who are reading young Alex' words... if he'd written them in most public schools, he'd have been suspended from school!

Matt 21:16
And they said to Him, Do You hear what these are saying? And Jesus replied to them, Yes; have you never read, Out of the mouths of babes and unweaned infants You have made (provided) perfect praise?

Absolutely!!

I believe that "old souls" come back to Earth to help us with the work that needs to be done. Alex has so beautifully described these ideals in his poem. I don't think that neophytes have those thoughts.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I hope nobody workshops the crap out of him and everyone just lets him use his natural talent.

Some nice words, however, I was a teacher for several years, and I know there is nobody on earth who likes fighting better than 8-year olds.

The funny thing is, boys are usually back to being friends after a few hours, but girls hold grudges for weeks and years.

Sadly he'll grow up and become like every other adult.

It doesn't take a smart person to dream of a utopia. Hell, if that was the case, check this out.

Boy, I sure wish war could end,
and that peace could finally bend
the brittle sword of hate,
for we all need a better fate.

Voila!! Now I'm smart.

You had a chance to change the world
But when it came you blew it,
'Cause all you did was write it down.
What you should do is do it.
