I myself am revisiting my progressive rock roots. (Yes, I have actually played a mellotron.)

Just the usual, but the music I like isn't really any certain genre...Sinéad O'Connor, Tori Amos, David Bowie (which is not usual but a friend sent me two Bowie songs partially in German and he's funny in German), Culture Club, Enya (don't shoot me, anybody) RuPaul, Fiona Apple, Garbage, Dolly Parton, The Mamas And The Papas, Loretta Lynn, Grace Slick, The Spice Girls, k.d. Lang, Nena, Silverchair...

Also, I bought this CD

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=music

of German folk songs recently, and I really like it but I can't follow what they're saying much. I think a whistle is even played, but it might be a piccolo. I can't tell.

glauber, I listened to the clips of The Andy Carlson Band on cdbaby.com. That's superb music. Thank you.

I'm working with a friend on arranging a bunch of songs for performance so I'm listening to a lot of recorded versions to try to figure out what instrumentation to use and how to make the songs truly 'us.' Some of the songs are obscure but amongst the better known ones are Reynardine, Willie O'Winsbury, Delia, Penny's Farm and October Song. For example, I had the idea of doing October Song with a drone but Dick Gaughan has already done that and it's best not to invite comparison with Dick Gaughan.

I've also been listening to some 60s British jazz: The Rendell/Carr group, Tubby Hayes, Graham Collier, Mike Westbrook. (Eldarion has also been listening to the same Rendell/Carr album; it must have something to do with time zones.)

I've also been listening to the Toshiko Akioshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band: one of the great undeservedly neglected bands from the 70s.

Right now I'm listening to Chris Norman's "Beauty of the North." Been listening mostly to Chris and Frankie Kennedy (Altan) lately. Would be listening to more Deirdre Havlin (Deanta) if there was more available.

I've got a lot of respect for David Bowie's music. I've recently been admiring the melody of "Life on Mars."

I'm listening to choir music for my choir's Easter performance. Included is a modern arrangement for Handel's Messiah. Hallejuhah.

I also listen to recent American Idol performances recorded from the TV show.

Combining monotheism and idolatry... interesting.
