How is the new Chieftains live cd?

Post by dwinterfield »

The release is next week in US. If it's already out in Europe, how is it? The song list seems a little more traditional than recent work and a mix of Irish and other music..

Any idea what the album is called?

I believe it's a collaboration between the Chieftains and Puff Daddy and is titled "The Chieftains Do the 'Hood" or maybe it was "Puff Plays the Pub."

;)

You're getting your rappers mixed up here Sue.
It's not a collaboration with Puff Daddy but with his Irish cousin,Duff Paddy.

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Paddy Maloney's slow air in tribute to Derek Bell is particularly moving--I haven't even looked at the CD yet but I saw 'em in concert w/Carlos Nunez (that hairline just keeps moving backwards...) a couple of months ago & Paddy played that one & it's incredible.

I bought the cd. I could do without the jazz, bluegrass (when Paddy says "From Nashville" I cringed) and the piano. But I'm a huge fan of the Pilatzke brothers and their energy really comes through on the last two live tracks of the cd. Carlos is good fun aswell, especially on the Finale, same with Molloy. Overall a fun cd, but I could do without a couple of the tracks.
