Before you open a thread…

Socializing and general posts on wide-ranging topics. Remember, it's Poststructural!

Before you open a thread do you read who the author and the last post are?

If I did I wouldn’t be reading this.

Before you open a thread…

Post by I.D.10-t »

The reason I ask is that I find that I have been selectively reading some posts and have found that it acts as my own moderation for my reading. Not that any one has bad posts, just that sometimes I am not in the mood for serious things and so I will avoid certain authors. Other times I feel like straining my brain and avoid others. Wanted to know if others do this.

I read everything, usually.

But I do take note as to who has written what before I read it.

I judge by the title - if it sounds halfway interesting I'll take a look. Unless I'm really bored, then I'll read anything.

Absolutely...there are at least two people whose initial posts I won't read, and who -- once they become involved in a thread -- I will ignore the topic. Happily this has cut down on my 'must spend hunks of time reading C&F'.

There are also at least two avatars that will cause me to ignore posts.

If I have the free time, I'll usually glance into most threads. The less free time I have, the more selective I get.

I also tend to check both topic and author - there are authors that I avoid on certain topics but read eagerly on others.

If it looks like an online flirtation thread I may skip it.

I tend to go by title. This means I often miss something interesting. But I usually find out because someone tips me off. Like most of us, in some moods I enjoy certain kinds of banter; in others, I don't.

Sometimes I even avoid the topics I'd find most interesting because I know I can't afford the time to get involved.

If I change my avatar will you go back to reading them?

1. How can you tell what the avatar is from the thread title? :-?

2. Waiting to see if Tyghress ignores this thread now . . .

Me too, so I find it annoying when I miss an interesting thread because of a title that doesn't explan what the thread is about.

I'll read threads started by people I have learnt to dislike, but usually avoid posting to them.

He meant me. I've really ticked Martin off lately.
