I would advise that you purchase neither one right now. A better choice will be available next year. I have a Sony receiver that I can't figure out how to use properly. My brother is a Phi Beta Kappa, and the manual for his new receiver is more than he can handle. I used to build stereo amplifiers from kits with point-to-point wiring, but that was 1960. I memorized the Allied Radio Catalogue in earlier years, but now I have no clue.

Hey Loren, do you wear one of those 'Back to Mono' badges too?

Seriously, I wouldn't use any kind of guitar amp but a tube amp.

I always go to epinions.com to see if there are customer reviews before buying electronics. I've picked up some good advice from time to time.

Yeah, and you can probably ride your amp out to the parts store and back if you blow a speaker :P

Yeah, and I'm totally excited because I just traded my cell phone in for a killer set of soup can's connected with string, got a killer deal too!!

Seriously though, have you ever heard music played through a McIntosh tube amp stereo system? Not the sort of thing I can afford, but I have a lawyer acquaintance with a McIntosh system and lemme tell you, it was awesome :boggle: :boggle: :boggle:

Now, lets get back to guitar amps, my boss has a vintage Mesa Boogie combo that he never uses  I've been trying to pry that outta his hands for a year now. It has the beautiful wood cabinet and all, drool....

foxacious.... I really, really like that word. It feels spiffy when I say it. I think I shall begin using it immediately so that it can join ranks with 'snarky' and 'sparrowfart o' clock'.

Oh, and to keep this on-topic: Amar, you should get the top one, it looks more foxacious. :D

In my other life, we use the Yamaha at a number of our TV stations for 5.1 audio confidence monitoring (via toslink). Out of some 26 broadcasting Chief Engineers, none of them has a complaint with it for quality.

I've had the ONKYO TX-SR501 for about a year. It's a grat machine. Most of all, get lots of good speakers. Unless you're good at it, have them professionally installed, if the money is available. I put an extra set of speakers in another room as this receiver can run two sources at the same time.

Go for it.

Do what I do. Research them to the point of obsession, then buy the one that looks the best and forget the research.

That's what I did today. We are beginning renovation on our house and this includes all new/old kitchen. Appliances MUST look right in a vintage style 20's kitchen. Ended up buying probably the wrong range based soley on the way it would look in the kitchen. :D
