This is for any players out there under the age of 18(or so). My name is Zac Leger, I'm 19(so I'm cheating) and I run(among many other things) an online Yahoo! group for teens who play or are interested in Irish music/instruments. Lately the club has been slow and I'd like to get some new people in, but actually finding new people has been hard. If you are interested, the group is located at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/teenswhoplayirishmusic
And I do ask that you at least be under 21 (I'm sorry Dale, but this means you cannot join no matter how youthful you may appear).
Slan,
Zac Leger

Hello everyone...
I am nineteen...and I'm interested in how y'all got started playing Irish music...it's not exactly the hippest thing to most younger people, whose conception of a whistle is either a)related to 'that instrument everyone learns in third grade' or b)that 'high pitched flute thing on the Titanic soundtrack'...ah well. We're ambassadors for culture I suppose...

Greetings, my young friends.
I have something very important to share with you.
At your tender ages, you may not be thinking about therapy.
But remember, EVERY WHISTLER NO MATTER HOW OLD OR YOUNG, CAN BENEFIT FROM THERAPY.

Nemo Pudsy* - I already know that my psyche is hopelessly screwed up; I don't need a psychological assessment to tell me that!
Zac, how exactly does one go about joining your group? I checked out your web page but I have this little problem in that I am technologically-challenged.....in other words, I couldn't figure out how to join! can you let me in on the info?
how I got started playing the whistle: I was in an Irish/folk music and instrument store in Bar Harbor, Maine (USA) last summer. I have this penchant for instruments and a craving to buy them. the cheapest instrument in the store was the whistle, so I checked it out, tried it out, and bought one. I now have two whistles and am beginning to show the first signs of suffering WhOA! I am not overly concerned about this. I practice when I can, but my roommate doesn't enjoy the whistle as much as I do, so these practice sessions are neither long nor often. I think I am going through withdrawal...ok, maybe I DO need a therapist!
