Feadog nickel D with blu-tac! :P
And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.

I can't choose only one...

Or I'd only own one :)

Currently, I've vacillating between my Greenwood, my Abell (pure and loud version), and my nickel Copeland

Since getting my Burke, the only other whistle I've picked up has been my Clarke original. If I could only have one, at this point, I would probably have to go with the Clarke. The Burke is superior in almost every way, but something about the Clarke just makes it feel "right" to me.

What sort of Burke are you playing?

A black tipped D aluminum narrow bore. It really is the best whistle I've played, and I'm finally getting used to a cylindrical bore again. But like I said, Clarke just has some intangible quality that appeals to me.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

To choose only one D it would have to be my Bleazey Low D in Mopani. I get more comments on the playability and tone on that whistle than any other. Holes are a little small (tapered bore) but that is not a problem if one stays in the main keys.

Of course, there is a Rose Blackwood High D on the horizon!!!!!

I haven't tried too many high D's, but of those I have, (and I won't mention any names) I have to agree, my Humphrey is my favorite.
I just can't put it down. :D

I declare, my fingers actually move faster when I'm playing it then any other. And I have no idea why! :boggle:

But it's a wonderful whistle. My goal is to have a Humphrey in every key he makes.

:) :) :) :) :)

The hardest part of playing multiple whistles is which whistle to play and when. Also, when finally deciding to play a certain whistle the other whistles are ostracized.

I have to take two. My Humphrey NB D and my Alba Q1. It depends on the tune but these two would be sufficient.

I'll answer for high D; for low Ds I have very different requirements.

This isn't a good question to ask someone who likes wood, likes to pick up a whistle for a tune many times during the day and who likes to have whistles available with very different characteristics for recording. I own a lot but, if I had to, I could just about get by with my Sindt. I prefer my Busman but for picking it up constantly for just a couple of tunes I'd be concerned about care. I'd also feel very deprived without my Overton which has a lovely husky tone. I don't think of these as being in competition with each other but perhaps other whistles are in (unsuccessful) competition for the niche each of these occupies.

I keep coming back to whistles after a break and finding new things to like in them.

O'Riordan concert D with the ebonite tube.

All others have taken a back seat although the Abell D in Madagascar Rosewood is very close.

Impossible to have just one. I always start noodling on a cheapie while warming a good whistle. So, I could never have less than two.
