What's this tune?

Post by moxy »

... I can hear this great tune in my head, played on a fiddle, and because I can hear it I'm sure I have a recording of it (that's how it got in my head in the first place)...

But I have no idea who plays it, what it's called, where it is on my iRiver... Shoot!!!

I want to learn the tune!! But I can't find it... ARRRRGGGGGHH!!!!

If you can hear it well enough to know a some of the notes, I'll bet someone here could tell you the name of the tune!

yeah, ok, let's see...

it's in G major.

Goes like this (hopefully you can pick this out... it's my own version of ABC I guess!!)

GGBG dGBA GF#GB dCBC A...

That's the A part. The B part starts like this:

ggGA B...

ring a bell for anybody? Sorry, it's not much to go on eh...

OK, a bit of elaboration on the A part:

starts like this - GGBG dGBA GF#GB dCBC A...
then at some point goes like this - af# gedB GGBG dGBA GF#GB dCBC ABCd eCge dBCA GDEF# - then starts over...

Well so far, that's just not working out...

But I'm determined to find this tune!! When I do, maybe - just maybe - I'll let you all know what it is :P

Sorry, I thought it had a chance of working out. Maybe you should change the title of the post to something that suggests you are looking for advice? C&F folks love to give advice (much like I'm doing here, except my advice to you is unsolicited)

Sorry it didn't work out.

A bit of that sounds like "Sweet Flowers of Miltown"

Dunno if that helps?

Edited to add, on WFO2, disk 1, track one, after The Roscommon.

Hi Moxy,

I've posted what you've given us so far into ABC, take the above and slap it in here:

http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html

Then hit submit, and listen to the midi and se if it's sounds right so far...

I'm sure someone like Peter Laban will recognise it.

Oh cool, yeah, something like that (obviously there are bits missing)!

Gary, it's not the Sweet Flowers of Miltown, sadly, but thanks for the suggestion.

Martin, what a cool tool! Try putting this into it:

X:1
T:Moxy's Mystery Tune
M:6/8
L:1/8
R:Reel
Q:1/2=80
K:G
|GGBG dGBA |GF#GB dcBc |ABcd eccc |ecaf# gedB
|GGBG dGBA |GF#GB dcBc |ABcd ecge |dBcA GDEF#
|GGBG dGBA |GF#GB dcBc |ABcd eccc |ecaf# gedB
|GGBG dGBA |GF#GB dcBc |ABcd ecge |dBcA GGGf#
|ggGA BBBd |ggf#g edeg |aeed eeeg |aaed c#def#
|ggGA BBBd |ggf#g edcB |ABcd ecge |dBcA GGGf#
|ggGA BBBd |ggf#g edeg |aeed eeeg |aaed c#def#
|ggGA BBBd |ggf#g edcB |ABcd ecge |dBcA GDEF#:|

(except when I put it in, it wouldn't play the c#'s in the B part...)

That's what the tune really sounds like (more or less). Anybody know it now?

(Tom - I've also changed the subject line of this thread, hopefully successfully - that's a very good suggestion!! OK, I wasn't successful... how the heck do you change it???!! YAY, I figured it out :) )
