First, I want one each of every whistle model in every material available. When I have them all I will make an informed judgement. Until then, I must carry on with brass, aluminum, rolled tin and plastic of several kinds since I ain't got wood (yet). I must confess I have have more plastic topped (Hoovers and Syns) aluminum whistles than anything else.

I definitely vote wood, but if I were playing that game, I'd have to say "depends". I wouldn't take wooden whistles camping, for example, nor on a long car trip when I'd have to bring them in from the car for virtually every stop. Fortunately, there are facsimiles of wooden whistles (Water Weasels) for that.

You know, I've wondered if anyone had ever tried carbon fiber for a whistle?
My favorite in a Low D (most played) is the Burke Composite-it's the one I'd want on that deserted isle!
Next favorite for a Low D would be aluminum.
I would surmise that if I found a suitable wooden Low D in wood, it could be a favorite; as yet, I haven't tried one.
In the high Ds, I have heard a Sweet old model in rosewood that was very, um, ...sweet!
