They put me in mind of a screaming snotty-nosed toddler.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that schwing

Maybe Martin's been subjected to some second rate piping lately. All that's needed is a dose of the good stuff and he'll be cured.Peter Laban wrote:So you were really sh*t us when you said :

May the joy of music be ever thine.

Yes and no. Weren't you playing C pipes, or something lower than usual? That's more like a snarking teenager.Peter Laban wrote:So you were really sh*t us when you said :

I spent an evening in the freezing cold in Wyoming, in a sparsely furnished room (no curtains, high ceilings, hardwood floors), listening to a young woman play GHB and loved every minute of it. My ears rang for a week. I love the sound of any kind of pipes unless played poorly--and I've heard some of that too.

(I have a beautiful 23-year-old daughter who was once a snotty-nosed screaming toddler and I can tell you the sound is quite different, Martin. I'll take the pipes any day. )

C sets and the sound of teenagers....I suppose this has something to do with my latest midlife crisis.Martin Milner wrote:Yes and no. Weren't you playing C pipes, or something lower than usual? That's more like a snarking teenager.Peter Laban wrote:So you were really sh*t us when you said :

I'm convinced that 99% of the people who dislike bagpipes have not figured out the difference between in-tune competent playing and out-of-tune warbling with shoddy, slurred embellishments.susnfx wrote:I spent an evening in the freezing cold in Wyoming, in a sparsely furnished room (no curtains, high ceilings, hardwood floors), listening to a young woman play GHB and loved every minute of it. The other 1% are just weird.

Speaking of in-tune pipes, I attended a funeral in the Detroit area about two weeks ago which had a GHB player in the church and at the cemetery. In the church the piper played together with the organist and was perfectly in tune. It made an otherwise sad day a little brighter.Wormdiet wrote:I'm convinced that 99% of the people who dislike bagpipes have not figured out the difference between in-tune competent playing and out-of-tune warbling with shoddy, slurred embellishments.susnfx wrote:I spent an evening in the freezing cold in Wyoming, in a sparsely furnished room (no curtains, high ceilings, hardwood floors), listening to a young woman play GHB and loved every minute of it.
