CHIPS are what you eat with fried battered Fish (and 'proper' batter is a whole subject in itself,as is frying medium-veg.oil,Lard?).
What we are talking about are CRISPS!
Of course,Crisps are one of the major food groups (along with BEER and CHOCOLATE)and come in a variety of flavours-not all of them 'natural'.
BRITISH Crisp flavours past and present include Cheese and Onion,Beef,Salt and Vinegar,KIPPER,HEDGEHOG,and GIRAFFE(o.k.,I made that last one up,but the rest are real-did anyone REALLY know how Hedgehog tasted? :boggle: ).

These are really good. TAYTO.
They have tons of flavors. I always scarf loads of 'em when I go to good 'ol Ard Mhacha.

Re 'Tayto' Crisps-When I saw Paddy Keenan and Tommy O'Sullivan play at the Newcastle Irish Centre recently,a little girl at the table next to me shouted out to her parents "LOOK-I've got some REAL,TRADITIONAL IRISH CRISPS!!"
I must admit that they were very nice-NO,I didn't mug her-I've tried them when staying in Ireland!!!

Well, when Americans began the worldwide phenomenon of mass-producing and selling thinly sliced fried potatoes, they were known to be just that, a very thin version of what in Great Britain are called chips.

Let's see... who have we got on the board to teach these colonials to talk English proper like? A coupla Ludensians, a Geordie, a Brummie, a Cornishman, a bloke from Lunnon, a Mancunian. We'll form a committee to decide on correct pronunciation. Agreement should be reached in about a thousand years from now.

I saw a variety of Guy's potato chips in the store, yesterday, in full-sized bags of various flavors. If I recall correctly, Guy's was owned by Borden.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

In Akron there is a small chip maker, whose name I can't remember but I think it's Golden Crisp, whose chips I tasted at a restaurant. They tasted really, really good. So I bought a bag and found out they're made with lard.

Lard is what made McDonald's fries so good long, long ago.
