A toast

Post by BillChin »

This being a pub and all I thought it a good day for a toast.

Here is to the brave men and women who voted in Iraq. Especially the women who put their names on the ballot and will play a part in forming the new government. These women face death threats and go against generations of stigma in a society that treats women as third class citizens. Whatever your politics, raise a bipartisan glass with me--in the words of Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana (Democrat) and President George Bush:
"This is a great day for democracy."

Cheers.

Yes, may it serve them well, and may they suffer little for their courage.

Cheers!

Ottawa was one of three polling stations in Canada, an Iraqi drove from Halifax to Ottawa (A two day drive there and back I believe) to register last week, than did the trip AGAIN to vote. These people were having a blast last night, it was nice to see.
