Do we want to keep political and/or religious in 1 thread?

Frankly, I'm a fence straddler myself. With the fence planted firmly . . . 'er, you get the idea.DaleWisely wrote: Personally, I have my feet planted firmly in mid-air.

I say no. Now that we're not taking space away from whistle-related topics, I can't think of any reason to segregate political and religious threads...unless you're worried about them turning nasty, in which case perhaps you need a Flame Room to direct people to when they get really unpleasant (lots of forums have those as well).

I doubt if they get TOO nasty. The thread in question has not, for some time.Redwolf wrote:I say no. The plethora of political and religious topics that seem to be discussed though, might make for a first page of all that stuff. Not saying that I'm against that, but some have strong feelings about not seeing anything to do with that type of stuff.

I'm with Lorenzo. One point of the megathread was to reduce the volume of OT's--not such an issue in the Pub. I avoid the mega due to the hassle of wading through to find something of interest. I'd vastly prefer to zero in on threads which are of particular interest to me.
Maybe, instead, we should have an "Alley" thread. i.e., when any poster(s) become pugnacious in any thread we can ask them if they'd like to take that one into the alley.
edit: what Redwolf is calling the flame room

I don't think that Dale was suggesting that they were the same thing, just that since those two particular topics were being "discussed with such gusto", he had them put into one, in a sticky to make it easier to find.

Of course there has to be an extra forum for this too  . And could I have another one just for myself, just so ...
No, come on, if there has to be on OT forum now, at least let's have a special thread of his own to each person, who wants to go ranting and roaring about political, religious and whatsoever items!

Since the Poststructural pub is a totally OT joint, and being that this is the group it is, I say let her rip. I for one used to enjoy reading some of those threads before- I felt I learned a lot from them- but I can't keep up with the mega-thread now.
Plus, if things get out of hand, (I really don't think they will) you can always put it back. My 2 cents.
Best,
Paul

I'm with Izzy on the Frank thing and Lorenzo on the rest of it.izzarina wrote:I would prefer not to be Frank. I'm more of a Monique or Anastasia person myself. So I can be that, but not Frank.Wombat wrote: Oh, let's be frank.
And for the record, I say yes. I think that Lorenzo's point was a good one.
Will can be Frank if he wants...
