Orinda,

It's a well known Jig...there are no lyrics.

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

"I met her in the garden where the praties grow..."

"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."

They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!

I prefer "tatties". That way, when I mumble, she's not quite sure what I said was so nice. :D

After harvesting, potatoes were traditionally stored in a straw-lined pit (hole in the ground). Gander in the pratie hole suggests a certain breakdown of good order and discipline.

Are you telling me that "gander" is a verb? :)

Well, in English, "take a gander" is slang for "take a look", so it could mean "Look in the Potato Storage Pit".

So, instead of the title referring to a memorable incident where a male goose escaped its pen and got at the potatoes, it might just be a reminder to stockcheck before making out a shopping list.

Hmmm.

ARRRR, no, me hearties, a "pratie" is a landlubber who failed the entrance examination for pirate school.

Which consists of just one question.
