Ben,

Good on you!!!

Don't play the pipes , they'll probably just wind you up!!! I quit 3 mths ago after 20 yrs of smoking. I was aware of how I was becoming the minority in sessions as a smoker and felt a bit of a sore thumb. After I quit, first time I went to a session, they were all smokers. Retribution eh? Just go easy with the drink, I had a couple of 'accidents' replacing smoking with drink......

Play the whistle, cook some nice food, play Halflife 2. Get sexy wit da wife... anything that involves mouth and hands, just ...don't...smoke!!!

Anyway, you'll be safe next weekend, I'll apply some counselling

Ben I quit about 10 or eleven years back(frae 60 a day) to nothing. It was Hogmany and my young niece asked me what I was giving up for the New year I didnae have a scooby what, so I said these things screwed... them up and that was that.Mind ye I had to smoke them outside and it was the year we had -20 c and the fags were sticking to my lips...Anyways what I did was for the 1st 3 months( which was the hardest after that it was a stroll)...I put the money I would have spent on fags into a glass jar and watched the pile grow..it was real incentive to carry on and before I knew it I had a neat pile...then ye have to treat yourself with the dosh...something nice...like paying Alan for the re reeding of your new set
Watch out, especially this time o the year to get colds and sniffs and sneezes etc..that is common for newly de addicted nicotine users, its the body cleaning itsel up..
Good Luck..persevere it is well worth it...

I find myself giving up for around 8 hours every night.

You've done the worst bit if you've made it a week. Great luck to you in quitting, but please don't become one of those pink lung, born again breather types. I've tried quitting a couple of times. The first day is the worst when I lay there shaking with a stomach ache. Bit by bit it gets better. I made it about two and a half months quitting cold turkey and felt like an absolute ass when I went back to it. Thank God for bellows when I hack my lungs out some day. How much are ciggies a pack in the U.K.?
They are about $5.00 in Michigan. That's why I roll my own Gauloises.

Rollies are the only way for an uilleann piper to go.
None of this boring "just open a pack and there the cigs are" crap.
That's for fiddle players.

Worrying about paper selection, tobacco brands, humidity, etc.....it's right up our alley.

Cheers

I just gave it up until my recital in February.

Normally I wouldn't care too much....but me being a music major...and it being my senior recital....I figured any extra lung power I could muster wouldn't be a bad thing.

Ironically, the day I'm allowed to start smoking again is Feb 9....Ash Wednesday.

Cheers

Years ago, my parents and I decided to give up smoking for lent. By 7:00 p.m., we were sitting there glaring at each other thinking,"There's not a jury in the world that would convict! :moreevil: " I decided God would like me better smoking ciggies than killing people.
