This pretty much sums my tastes up as well. Although I do like a good "Black and Tan" once in a while, which would require Harp's (at least in the ones that I've had).

I've been away from the suds for a couple months anyway. I decided I was enjoying the juice of the barely a bit too frequently.

I wasn't trying to be a uppity or anything, I've know to be wrong a time or two in my life, so I could have been wrong about the Bass thing, also.

I really like beer, but don't consume all that much. I would much rather have one or two EXCELLENT beers than a bunch of the usual bland stuff.

All the Best, Tom

At the very least, beer makes death happen faster.

If one doesn't take the first drink, one cannot take the fiftieth.

When beer is outlawed only outlaws.....
(Wait, they tried that here in the States once.)

They'll get my beer when they pry it from my cold dead....

Here's a diary entry for one of the Pilgrams on the Mayflower.
"We could not take time for further search or consideration, our victuals being much spent, especially our beer."

How would the history of North America have turned out had the Pilgrams had more beer?
Was it Irish beer?

I don't know if there is any real evidence that alcohol consumtion in itself shortens lifespan. Except in the obvious case of the extremely heavy drinker where the effects are blatent causality cannot be proved. There are too many variables. Many people of all ages consume alcohol in moderation and are in excellent health.

 Ignorance again shows itself on the forum.

There is medical evidence that some consumption actual improves the lifespan of an average human. Anything in excess can be harmful of course...

The thing about beer is that it can travel very poorly. My experience with Guinness in the USA is that somedays it's great, some days blech. Guinness would usually be my first choice, but only on a good day. At the session in Ithaca, the Murphy's tap is always having a bad day.

But there are some really fantastic American beers now, thanks to a resurgence in microbrewing. And so much choice it is all over you screen! Regardless of country, the best beers I've ever tasted were all brewed less'n an hour from where I tasted them, so there's a good argument for finding something local.

The only problem with American microbrews is that nobody wants to make a plain stout. It's always a little hint of coffee or chocolate or raisins, or so much smoke I feel like I'm drinking pureed kielbasa. No offense to Irish sensibilities, but the day American microbrews stop playing games with their stout and just make stout, I might forget the Guinness entirely.
