WHERE ARE ALL OF THE CHRISTMAS CHIFFERS???

Post by Will O'B »

Ok, where are all of you Christmas chiffers hiding?
:-? Dust off your microphones, grab your best
whistle and kick in a tune or three. Surely, Walden
and I can't be the only ones who care to toot a Christmas
tune at this yuletide time. I'm certain Alan would love to
hear from you. :)

Where have all the Chiffers gone?
Long time passing.
Where have all the Chiffers gone?
Long time ago.
Where have all the Chiffers gone?
Gone to Scrooges, every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Just kidding. I've been busy with "real life" lately, with little time to record. I've got a couple almost ready to burn, though. You should be seeing them shortly.

Reasons for not posting a "Chiffy Christmas" melody ...

1. The Grinch stole my microphone for a session with the Who's of Whoville .....
2. Haven't quite recovered from being asked to play "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"....
3. Rudolph-the-Red-Nosed Reindeer is demanding royalties for using his name in song .....
4. All of the above ...
5. None of the above ...
6. Don't know how, don't wanna, and/or don't play that well.

I pick #6, with a pinch of # 1 Image

Gee, too bad. I understand that "We Three Kings" plays nicely on a Dixon Mezzo A :poke:

Thanks, everyone for the compliments (I'll take 'em anyway I can get 'em), but that's not really the reason for this thread. While credit for the Chiffy Christmas tunes goes to Alan, I just thought that people would like to contribute some of their favorite holiday tunes is all. I enjoy listening to other people play the whistle. If they are people who I know from the board then it makes it that much nicer. For instance, if I heard Walden's original air without knowing who did it, it would still be nice. But feeling like Walden is a friend from the board makes it that much better. Plus, the Chiffy tunes don't seem to have the cut-throat, judgmental atmosphere that has always kept me from posting on clips & snips. I dunno . . . this is just my 2 cents worth, I guess . . .

There are a finite number of widely-recognizable Xmas songs and its pretty small. That's what occurred to me as I was trying to think of some new tune to contribute. I guess I could do "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" but the melody is not that memorable and without the words, well.....

Can you do "Children, Go Where I Send Thee"?

I think I will contribute "The Sans Day Carol" this year, and another one which I haven't decided on yet.

I would say ask Alan. He's taking submissions for the Chiffy Tunes at: zozm@yahoo.com.

Tell us something.: From the land beyond beyond. From the time past hope and fear. I bid you, Genie, now appear! Well, the Genie did not appear but the notification to type at least 100 characters did so I am back and typing some more as you, if anyone actually sees this, can probably tell.

I was looking to get a handle on an old Jean Ritchie tune, Christ Was Born in Bethlehem, that I vaguely remembered from decades ago.

I found it at this Web site, where I was quite amused to find an album of carols accompanied by the following:

"Warning: sound clips may contain explicit lyrics".

I mean, really...

There are some nice, relatively rare, tunes there, though, if you're a little burned out on the (otherwise perfectly good) songs that are blasted out from every store in every mall.

I very much like Mike and Peggy Seeger's American Folk Songs for Christmas. I think this link is to the CD, but there's a book too.
