See, everywhere else, I can answer this (similar) question by proudly announcing I like ITM, and people are either impressed, or think I'm a dork (like my kids).

Jazz and folk and classical. Broadway's cool too. Since I play a lot of different types, I tend to like a lot of different types.

Once on a TV show hosted by David Sanborn called Night Music (which had the most wonderful variety of music ever), there was a Bulgarian wedding band, that had a clarinet and a couple other pieces. They played super fast and it was great. I've never seen this band again but I've always kept an eye out.

BTW, on NIght Music one show might have Buddy Guy, an African tribal chorus, and a very young Sarah McLachlan, who would perform individually early on, then at the end they'd all jam together. I'd love to get DVD's of that show.

Like emm, I love Broadway musicals...I'll belt one of those out on a whim. I also love Big Band and swing. 60's and 70's rock, too. Alternative 80's music gets me dancing around the room, with my children looking at me like I've lost my mind. And I can't forget opera. Love it.

Ah heck, I just love music-- period.

I love early music, especially Medieval, Rennaissance, and Baroque.

I have also been known to listen to classic rock, and play flute and whistle in a rock band these days in addition to the great sessions we have up here in these old hills.

I also like folk music in general, and some country is ok.

Probably my favorite non-Irish genre these days though is filk. I love to listen to the likes of Urban Tapestry, or Three Weird Sisters, or Tom Smith. Good music and great fun!

I also like light jazz, especially when fused with other styles. The jazz suites that Bolling wrote and perfomed with flutists are wonderful! Mannheim Steamroller is also a favorite.

And I like some New Age; I like Enya quite a bit. Kitaro is also worth a mention, as is Mike Oldfield.

I reckon Aderyn has it right: I just love music!!!

On my desk here at work, there's Dermot Byrne, John Coltrane, the Cure, John Digweed, Glenn Gould, Iggy and the Stooges, Tommy McCarthy/Christy Barry/Cyril O'Donaghue, more Oakenfold, Outkast, Augustus Pablo, Photek, Astor Piazzolla, Rage Against the Machine, more Rammstein, Rinocerose, and Thievery Corporation.

Ok, but no snickering. Give me a good old fashioned Gregorian Chant and I'm in heaven. When the monks are in rare form after a day of stomping grapes, and the acoustics in the monastary are just right "Agnus Dei" or "Salve Regina" really does it for me. I don't know, but somehow I think that Walden is with me on this one.
