I've heard whistle and bodhran sounds good together, but I had never had a chance to try it, so I fired up http://www.tinwhistletunes.com and thumped away with a handful of tunes. Wow, I really see what people mean. However, if "less is more" applies to regular bodhran playing, then "less is MUCH more" with whistle accompaniment. I found it sounded the best if I only played the stress points and maybe a few up-beats here and there, but it was a great sound. I wish I knew a whistle player so I can try this for real.
Whistle and Bodhran...Nice!

"Beats" practising.
There once was a dirty, sly old goat.
He chewed on me plants and me fine tweed coat.
Then he started messin' with the farmer's sheep
Which might have resulted in a "shoat" or a "geep".
The farmer and the brother got the loan of a gun,
Sayin, "Where's that goat? There's a job to be done."
They tracked him down soon after dawn.
His hide, I can tell you, made a very fine bodhrán.
Hoppa datta doodly atta doodly atta doodle dum
etc.
(Kevin Conneff swears every word of this is true.)

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

It's a fun song. I heard him do one years ago at a concert.....something about a fellow who stays at a cottage where the man of the house is seriously into taxidermy....anything that dies this guys stuffs. Anyway, your man in the story falls down while chopping wood or something and this fellow comes after him with the salt......guess you have to hear it. I have been wondering what the title of this ditty is, and where I might come by a recording of it ever since that concert back in '88' or '89'....OK, I'm rambling now.....bye.....
