I'm a rabbit. I throw up a lot. Good work. If you can get it.
My opinion is stupid and wrong.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

I can't follow that. Won't even try. Would be like trying to follow Robin Williams doing stand-up.

I find myself in the midst of a huge development right now with regard to my career. This is a good thing. That's what's up with the Viking boat avatar. I cast the boat into the waters about a year ago. I'm not really at liberty to go public with details at this moment but I will elaborate later. The process is endlessly complicated but I love the challenge. It has been nerve-wracking and has been ongoing since this summer. but the end will more than justify it.

I have a B.S. and M.S. in microbiology and my first real postgraduate job was as a machinist which I did for 20 yrs or so. Also got into CAD drafting and machine design just to keep it from getting too boring. Right now I am a research scientist at the Center for Applied Energy Research which may sound impressive but mostly I work on finding things to do with coal ash. I was also an optician between high school and college and got into lapidary and silver jewelry (had to do something with all those shiny stones), went to Australia for a few months to learn the opal trade (mostly I learned that it took a lot more money than I could muster to be profitable) and I have had any number of other jobs and hobbies. Right now, I am working on getting a Life and Health Insurance license and a broker's license (stocks & bonds, etc.) so that I might have a little money when I retire. And can afford to feed my WhOA.

I got into Irish whistles because it looked easy and I liked the music; naturally I got a flute to make things infinitely more difficult.

It is a privilege to be welcomed into the C&F group - you are a pretty impressive lot.

Well, first off, I'm a mom. That seems to keep me pretty busy. But I also help my husband with our very small publishing company. He does most of the work, but I would like to say that I'm at least the woman behind the almost successful man

Izzy, what do you publish? In another life, that might be my line of work. In this one, I'm trying to fulfill my astrological destiny, and create written works of value. Painful, but compelling.

We seem to have a decent Upstate NY faction going here. (Binghamton is 15 miles from the PA border, but even if it was 15 miles from Florida it would be "upstate" to the folks in NYC.)

I'm a new college professor, just out of grad school. In my free time I, uh, ... huh. In my free time, I ... cripes, what do I do in my free time?

Wow, I've had a great time reading this thread (and have wasted precious dissertatin' time!)

I'm a PhD student only one skinny chapter away from finishing and defending my dissertation. I study contemporary American poetry (because they made me pick an era--my reading interests in poetry are pretty eclectic) and also theories about place (and I can tell you that after reading phenomenologists and high-falutin' new place theorists like Edward Casey, the whole field can basically be summed up by the old saw, "Wherever you go, there you are.")

I teach composition and literature at the Art Institute of CA. I'm fortunate enough to be married to the funniest, kindest, quirkiest man on earth.

I've been a lurker on the message board for many years (I remember when C&F was little more than a basic website, and an e-mail newsletter, perhaps '98 or '99, then I remember the first message board, etc...) Moving from TX to OR to CA has changed my "identity" on the board (altho' I think I was chiffgirl before, too...) I hardly ever post because I'm so long-winded...

I am a Digital Design Engineer at a small division of a large ASIC company (think custom computer chips).
The division I work for was a startup that was bought out, so we still have the feel of a startup
company (which I like, because I know all my coworkers), but the relative stability of a
large tech company (although our stock fluctuates rather wildly, we're a day trader's dream).

Our division designs chips for multimedia and communication products like digital cameras,
VoIP phones, PVRs, etc. As an engineer, it's nice to see the end result of my work out
in the real world, in the hands of regular people, though few people outside of the field
have heard of the company, since our name is hidden on the chips inside of the products.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up vomitbunny (you may know him better by his Native American
name, throws-up-with-rabbits...)

I love that Robin Williams HBO special from the 70's or early 80's. He was higher than
a kite back then (a Rocketman, if you will). It kills me when he ad libs Shakespearean lines:
"Soft: the moon, like a testicle, hangs low in the sky... my sister Hernia, what news?"
