Good Christmas Songs for D Whistles
I need to get back into the whistling mode and I thought that learning some Christmas songs would do the trick.
Anyone have any good songs?
Thanks!

- Tell us something.: Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Part of what I love about celtic/folk style music is the sound of a handful of handmade instruments that remind me of simpler times.

Great book:

(I see there's a link to the same thing for whistle--doubt if there's much difference--most tunes are in D or C)

The Where can I get Christmas music topic came up about a month ago. It has a lot of sources and also has my cheat sheet in it for number of carols that play easily on whistle.

it's very rare that i lose a song or a tune, but i just can't remeber the whole of "jenny", by the fureys.
a long lonesome day, without you jenny
there's nothing i could say to ease my mind.
?????????????????????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????????????
but non of them did look a bit like you.
and winter came this morning
like some kind of???????????
there's snow all 'round my garden to my door
i warmed my hands and drank my wine
hearing voices all the time
??????????????????????????
who knows the rest?

I didn't know this existed. Very impressive, everyone!!! My hat goes off to all of you. I especially liked BrassBlowers rendition of The First Noel. Very nice, BB.spittin_in_the_wind wrote:Check out the Chiffy Chat Christmas thread:

So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

And for those wanting to ring in the new year early, Auld Lang Syne is pretty easily playable on a D whistle.
By the way, if you ever get the chance, I recommend you check out (or tune in!) the alternate melody to the song as performed by the Cape Breton group the Barra MacNeils on their album The Christmas Album.
I first heard this alternate version during a Barra MacNeils concert aired last Christmas on PBS. It was love at first listen -- the melody is less rollicking and more melancholy (wistful, even) than the "standard" version.
And last night I figured out how to play the alternate melody on my low G.
One happy camper,
Walt

As it happens, I just recently put this together:SilverStrand wrote: Anyone have any good songs?
Christmas Songs
It's a zip file of Christmas songs in PDF. I've tried to transpose them into whistle friendly keys. It has the full sheet for most of the songs in Lee Marsh's quick cheat sheet.
