Name this tune!

Post by j dasinger »

Hi all,
I keep hearing this tune which is played as incidental background music on my local public radio station. I was wondering if anyone could I.D. it? I don't know if it's trad or modern, or even irish, but it definitely has that flavor. It's a fiddle recording. This is how I would play it on a D whistle. But the original may be in a different key. I have a sort of malleable sense of key. :D Anyway, here it is:

mystery jig
| EGB E2 B | BAG FGA | D2 A AGF| EGB E2 B | BAG B3 | AGF E3 |

Thanks
James

It's a standard Irish slipjig, "A Fig for a Kiss".

Is there something missing, Gordian?

Either:

Life is too important to yadda yadda

or:

Life is to important what "XYZ" is to take seriously

In this part of the World,it means to be grouchy or cranky.

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

My father was an English teacher and I was an Honors English student at Saint Flannens College Ennis Co. Clare and it shows ,Ain't not? I spent most of Algebra class drawing in the margins of the book.

Aw - Let's give it a last name too,

How about:

Mardie Gras?

But actually, I guess we should stick to it's real (reel? - oh yeah, it's a slip jig, sorry) name. "A Fig for a Kiss" is a great tune.

I find it one of the easiest 'Slips'. They generally tend to give me a headache.

Also, try playing it slow and 'hauntingly' on a Low whistle, a suggestion I got from Tygress awhile back when I asked about haunting tunes for Halloween.

Different, but way-cool! And spooky
