Seeking Irish folk music CDs

Since last year I have become obsessed with Irish folk music and traditional music arranged for acoustic guitar. I have many CD's by Christy Moore, Noel McLoughlin and 2 Robbie O'Connell.

I know of noone that has anything in folk that I could borrow or listen to. They all have purely traditional, or just pipes, fiddle, etc.

I have already looked into 'Mary Black', 'Paul Brady' and 'Hair of the Dog' that a friend suggested.

Anyone else want to make a suggestion for folk artist CDs that I should look for ?

I'd suggest you listen to Sean Tyrrell's The Orchard and The Cry of a Dreamer. Folk music doesn't come any finer than this, with perhaps one excetion ..... While you're about it, you might want to investigate Scottish singer Dick Gaughan, especially his self-titled album and Handful of Earth.

The CD. mentioned here is an essential item for anybody with an interest in the role of the Guitar in ITM.
There is a sound clip available and a few names mentioned that would be worth investigating.

I was looking to check the name of El McMeen, I have one of his tutorial videos on Irish guitar stuff in CADGAD tuning, and found this forum:

I haven't heard it, but I would bet El McMeen's CD "Dancing the Strings" is pretty hot celtically.

Seek out any recordings of Tony McManus. For inspiration beyond the purely guitar-led tunes, listen to recordings that feature Arty McGlynn such as the early Patrick Street albums, The Fire Aflame album (superb), and Music at Matt Molloy's. He features prominently on these though he is usually playing backing, but in his own inimitable way. What a man.

Planxty, Chieftains, Fureys, Dubliners, Dolores Keane, Battlefield band, Tannahill Weavers, Bothy Band..... to name a scant few.

Lately I have been diggin' Lunasa a great deal.
