Frankly I couldn't care less who's winning, but I think they should both go have another look at the Reasonable Person Principle by which this board is governed. If they want to talk about flutes, fine. The random personal attacks and nastiness don't serve any purpose.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Love it! My two faves:

"Methink'st thou art a general offence and every man should beat thee."

"O teach me how I should forget to think."

Hilarious.

I cast my vote "Who Cares?" because no matter who is "winning" they are both losers for getting entrenched in such puerile debates.

In general though I find DM's debate style to be more robust.

Andrew's style lacks a sense of humor (or humour). Andrew does most of the baiting. When a question is brought up he tends to include a barb against DM in his reply even if DM has not been mentioned. Andrew's counterpoints go off subject by adding extra barbs against things like grammar and politics. Andrew is more likely to drag other names into the argument like Chris Wilkes.

DM tries to insert humor and humility into his responses, as though he is debating for sport. DM responds to Andrew's barbs because it's a part of his background. DM casts his net broadly but it tends stay on the topic of wooden flutes. DM's style has changed and does not debate as ravenously or fiercely as he has in the past. DM cites published sources more often than other people.

I know, it's sad. I have become a flute pundit. But I'm not too proud to admit it because I don't think I'm so knowledgeable that I am "above" such arguments.

Cheers,
Aaron

Ouch. That hurt. I just stay out of it because I don't know squat. Was that a barb, then, Aaron?

That is an excellent review of the facts, Aaron!!
I don't know enough to say anything, but I sure like how you said it.

I wonder what these two men are like in person and whether I would rather listen to them speak or play?

This has already been made into a movie--Alien vs. Predator, coming soon to a theater near you. Doesn't matter who you root for, the humans get caught in the middle.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

I think the Andrew/Migoya entertainment value in limited doses is amusing. But this comes from someone who gets thrown into cactus patches and the occasional bar room brawl, so a little prickliness or bruising doesn't bother me much. Andrew's dry wit and yawning style makes me laugh, but he's like the house cat that rubs on your leg one two many times. You want to pick him up by the scruff of the neck and pitch out the back door into the rain. But I like cats, and sooner than later he would be back inside, and I would enjoy the relaxing sound of his purring. Migoya is like an eight year old cowdog with the energy of a pup. He's smart, and he's run many a good herd over the years and put on some miles. He's tough, reliable and consistent. He should have mellowed by now, with age, experiences and accomplishments. But, like a silly pup he still gets his nose clawed by the cat that he can't resist going after. Hey, it's hard to fight mother nature I guess. As my dad (RIP) used to say, silence is sometimes the best answer.

Saludos,

Tex

Yup, that's me, alright! :P

Oh, yeah, and "Idol of idiot-worshippers" also comes close...

Sure but now they'll argue about which one is an Alien and which is a Predator.

But no matter what, I feel unclean for taking part in this. I think I'll go wash my hands until they bleed.

Cheers,
Aaron
