Any other Florida Pipers expecting Charlie?

Post by Joseph E. Smith »

I live between Orlando and Tampa, currently in the path of Hurricane Charlie. As I write this, the weather service fully expects Charlie to come ploughing through my neck of the woods tomorrow afternoon, hurling winds in excess of 75+mph. So....uh....any other FL pipers expecting the same? :D

I believe you meant to say that that's where you live today. Tomorrow, Louisianna perhaps. (shades of Toto, Toto!) :D

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

Tell us something.: I used to play pipes about 20 years ago and suddenly abducted by aliens.

I'm expecting rain. If the Hurricane twists to the East tonight I'll be climbing my 40' radio tower in the morning to secure it with ski rope.

They have just predicted that it will become a catagory 3 hurricane, packing winds in excess of 110mph when it lands in the Tampa area...which is approximately 86 miles west and south of moi. So I am expecting winds nearing the 80-85mph over my immediate area.

djm, I'm thinking that by the looks of it, I might well be in Bermuda by tomorrow evening. Though I hear the weather is nice there...... :D :D :D

I think you should compose a tune in its honour...

'The Hurricane Reel'

...or you could re-name a famous tune.

'Joseph's Welcome to Charley'

I hope you miss the worst of it.

Tell us something.: From the land beyond beyond. From the time past hope and fear. I bid you, Genie, now appear! Well, the Genie did not appear but the notification to type at least 100 characters did so I am back and typing some more as you, if anyone actually sees this, can probably tell.

Joseph, we have a spare room, you're welcome to come visit Atlanta for a few days. I grew up on the gulf coast of Texas and have seen hurricanes in action...best thing to do is leave.

Houses can be rebuilt...family and friends are impossible to replace.

Good luck.
Regards,
Gary

Hey Gary. I appreciate the offer, but I will stick it out with my wife and dog. My wife is pretty tame, but my dog has a serious issue with aggression. :D :D :D

Tony, I wouldn't go climbing around in a storm. Florida being the lightning capital of the US. I should know, I have been struck, along with my dog. It is really no damn fun at all. Careful dude.

Hurricane Charlie

Post by GELivesay »

Joe, be on the lookout for flying arundo donax. I'm sure with hurricane force winds that there will be lots of "unique" thngs being thrown to the wind, so to speak.

Be watchful and if you need to evacuate head up to Macon, we got room.

I'm in Hollywood FL, just north of Miami right now. Last night there was a pretty good storm - very windy, but not too crazy. Looks a little windy outside my hotel room right now, but it's sunny and humid out there, I'm sure.

No time for model helicopters... there's a fun-fly scheduled this weekend in the west end of Fort Lauderdale I planned to visit on my way to a sales appointment, but it will probably get rained out.
