Advertising on C&F

Post by billw »

Dale, first of all, let me state that Serpent Music is still very much in business, and on the lookout for customers, regardless of my recent non participation here. I have a Renaissance Festival "musical comedy" group that eats most of my time now - http://www.gonemissing.us

That said, why didn't you just lay it on the line up front, and offer all of us makers the opportunity to advertise on your front page for money? I'd have happily paid for the privilege, as, I'm sure, would many of my peers. If you want to open it up to us, I'll still strongly consider it.

Okay, end of whine. I still love C&F, and you're still The Undisputed.
Cheers,

Do a search...

This has been brought up and answered at least twice already.

Basically: conflict of interest, taxes, and some other stuff...

Obviously I don't remember all the reasons, but they are good ones.

Didn't we just go through this a couple of weeks ago? I thought it was as much a technical issue as a preference issue.

Well, I suppose you have your opinions of good and bad reasons, but the fact is, taxes must be paid no matter what the source of the income, and considering the "non-commercial policy" of the site, I don't see any conflict of interest issue of continuing merit, either.

... but that's just my opinion. I'm not entering this to start a battle, just to get some specific questions answered that my search didn't locate. I don't consider it particularly controversial, either. The door has been opened for one advertising venue, and it seems lacking in logic to not open it for others now. Again, just my opinion, FWIW.

Cheers, :D

Since we use Google adds now, if you put an add in Google it has a very good chance of showing up here. Right now as i post, i just saw an add for a store that belongs to a group member.

Dale felt taking money from makers would create an appearance of conflict of interest, and i thing this is a good point.

Just to clarify: These are not MY reasons, nor MY opinions about the reasons... Just what I remembered of the thread which beowulf has so kindly linked, and which you should read.

Perhaps it would be best to let Dale respond... after all, the post was made to him... and he makes the decisions, and it is his call... and that way a whole lot of uneccessary animosity could be avoided. :)

I think Dale's answer is already known and this poll was started in the hope that public opinion would have changed since the last time.

Dale
Now THAT is a definitive statement. And with that you should probably lock it just so it doesn't drag on with pointless postscripts. Like this one.

Thanks, all, and especially to Dale, for clarifying the position here. I was NOT trying to cause controversy, just to get a definitive statement, which Dale's is, and I'm totally cool with it.

I sincerely apologize to anyone who thought I was fishing for a venue - I most decidedly am not. My website speaks for itself, quite nicely.
Best wishes to all,
