pornographic file/ Lunasa

Post by dubhlinn »

THIS IS NOT A GAG.

Friends,
A few minutes ago I was checking through a load of Lunasa audio files that I have been Downloading throughout the day, and there is a file floating around out there titled "CD Girls-Lunasa 2."
This is not an audio file put a hard core pornographic video.
I am posting this notice to prevent anyone being caught out and inadvertantly loading this file into their PC where it could easily be seen by children or adults of a sensitive disposition.
No need to post any responses, just wanted to let you all know about this example of crass stupidity.

Slan,
D.

I think I saw something to that effect when I did a search but I didn't open it. Thanks for the warning.

Peace,
Fran

I suspect blind and toothless may not be optimum for good whistle playing...but then again...

Oh great, as if Azalin didn't waste enough time on this stuff already... I know he wasn't a Lunasa fan, but after this I'm sure he'll jump onboard.

Don't listen too long Az, you'll go blind.
No I'm not returning...

Ummm....
Are you downloading these Lunasa audio files legally, or are you using Kazaa or another file-sharing client? I reall hope you're not ripping Lunasa off.

Being the brave soul that I am, I decided to investigate this matter since it piqued my curiosity! ;)
It turns out that the girl in the video clip is named 'Luna', and 'Lunasa' is just an abbreviation of 'Luna sample'.
There's nothing intentionally misleading about it... the people at cdgirls.com have almost certainly never even heard of the group 'Lunasa'!
Oh, and if that was what you'd call 'a hard core pornographic video', you'd better stop using file sharing programs like Kazaa before you stumble across something really hard core!
There are lots of intentionally misnamed files floating around, though not the case this time, that make the video clip you saw look extraordinarily tame in comparison! :o
Take it from someone who has used almost every file sharing program available for the past several years... sometimes you download nasty little surprises!
Regards,
Gary Humphrey

It was not my intention to start a thread here ,just to warn people that there was an unfortunate accident waiting to happen to some unsuspecting downloader.
Now one or to points have arisen here which I would like to address.
Chris, no one in the history of ITM as ever got rich from CD sales. The money is in touring and live performance and the more people who hear the music the more people go to the gigs. Two members of the Bothy Band once told me that they never made as much as One Penny from the first album, which is regarded as one of the landmark albums of ITM and still selling well today.
In years gone by,people swapped songs and stories as they sat around firesides and little village pups.In the modern age the fireside as become a PC in many cases and the Internet our pub.
When Jesus did his trick with the loaves and fishes was there any mention of fishing rights or the effect that the feeding of so many hungry people would have on the local baker and his workforce?
What about the economic hardship inflicted on the winemakers of Cana?
As an Irishman,I don't see how the profits of a record company should be a consideration when I want to listen to the Music of my people,as played by my people.

Now Raindog has suggested that the file in question is not really hardcore and I agree. It is however something that should never, ever be seen by a child. The Innocence of Childhood is a brief and fleeting thing and we as Adults have a duty to protect that purity to the best of our abilities hence my warning in the original posting.
Finally,on the matter of filesharing if any one amongst you should choose to do so of your own free will,go to
www.shareaza.com
and download the free software, then access mercora P2P Radio and do a search for "dublindave" and listen in to my shared folder being broadcast over the net.It is about 80% Folk Music. Some of the file names need editing but I usually do that on Saturday afternoon and when Iget time I will add as much of my 300+ CD collection as I can. If anyone has any probs accessing a browse let me know because there is an awful lot I don't know about PC procedures being new to this kind of thing.
And that is that (you'll be glad to know!)

Keep on Sharing,
Keep on Caring.

D.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

The record industry is a great evil anyhow. Don't even get me started on how they treat musicians. You're not a person as far as they're concerned, just a commodity. And I've been witness to a great many good musicians who've gotten royally screwed. So don't preach about the evils of stealing from record companies, because they're bigger crooks than all of us. Most artists make very little money off of selling cds. Most of them earn their supper on stage, and through t-shirt/poster sales and such. You may pay 18 bucks for a cd, but the artist will be lucky if they see more than a dollar or two from that purchase.

I do not think I disagree with either of you two. The facts are it is ILLEGAL to do it regardless of the surrounding circumstances. That is my only comment.

It is up to those involved to attempt to make changes, if possible.

Tell us something.: Hi All - I am a Celtic music performer with a band called Beyond the Heather, located in the Lawrence, KS/Kansas City area. I sing, play whistles, SSP and bodharan. I've been a C&F member since 2003 but haven't posted much recently.

Might I suggest, that we take it Artist by Artist. It should not be that difficult to find out which don't have problems with file sharing, and which do. Indeed, some encourage it. But, before I help myself to any art that is not obviously public domain, I try to do as much homework as possible, and if I find a musician or group which has spoken out againt file- shareing, I will respect their rights and opinions and refrain from downloading their material with out permission. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of 'sharing', but I am also a big fan of respect and obligation.

The fact is that many of us, big fans of sharing, are also big fans of buying, I (and most of the people I talked in forums) spend exactly the same money in music, films or series that I used to (or devote it to the WHOA). Now I can chose what I want to buy.

On the other hand, TelegramSam is right, a minimum part of our money go to the artists (unless they are big acts), there are examples of the abusive practices of big (and not so big) companies everywhere, from Planxty to the recent GreenLinnet affair, and that only in Trad music..

I can buy a book like Memoirs of Hadrian for 3 euros ¿Why should I pay 12 euros for a Bill Evans (piano) record in 2004? All initial recording costs are gone, why should we pay that?

And of course we know it's illegal, NorCalMusician :) , but I'm sure you have recorded at any time of your life a tape to a friend, that was illegal. And some well known record companies are also know to sell recording cassettes or video tapes knowing for sure buyers would make illegal copies of copyrighted material.

That is not justifying, the fact is that the whole industry (including musicians) will have to change their scope. The thing is that now it is possible to make a mp3 zip available to fans at a very low cost, and companies just don't want to adapt because there aren't enough profits. Well, now I'm doing something profitable for me for a change. That, and buy music directly from the artists or from companies that support their artist as they should.

Sorry for the extent of the message, I didn't notice it
