- Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

Meme: an information pattern, held in an individual's memory, which is capable of being copied to another individual's memory.emmline wrote:what is a meme?
Memetics: the theoretical and empirical science that studies the replication, spread and evolution of memes
There are lot's of great Web sites devoted to memes and memetics:
http://www.memecentral.com/
http://jom-emit.cfpm.org/
http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/memes.html
...and books:
Brodie, Richard. Virus of the Mind: The New Science of the Meme (Integral Press, 1996).
Blackmore, Susan. The Meme Machine (Oxford, 1999).
Dawkins, Richard. The Selfish Gene, New Edition (Oxford University Press, 1989). Brilliant explanation of the selfish-gene concept. The first book to describe the concept of the meme.
It's a really facinating (but obvious after you think about it) idea!
Organized religions are probably the most pervasive examples of memes.

Derfinintion found in Google search:
"Memes are contagious ideas, all competing for a share of our mind in a kind of Darwinian selection. As memes evolve, they become better and better at distracting and diverting us from whatever we'd really like to be doing with our lives. They are a kind of Drug of the Mind. Confused? Blame it on memes."
Highlight added. Definitely fits C&F

- Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.
Oh, you mean WhOA! Spending time researching, buying and selling whistles instead of actually playing them. :roll:Chuck_Clark wrote:Derfinintion found in Google search:
