Hi.

I've noticed that the board seems to go through cycles--times when things are relatively serious with lots of useful information and serious exchange of ideas, followed by times when the majority of threads/posts seem to be inane (but extremely amusing) non-sense that is at best only semi-whistle related.

I suspect it's related to moon-phases, but I'll leave that for all you whistling astronomers to figure out.

Tom

It's quite easy to figure out, actually; the cycle of funny/inane posts and serious, whistle-related posts tends to occur both two weeks preceeding and following the full moon.

I'll leave that one for all of you who took Rocket Science 101 to figure out!

PS: Was Brass Blower right? The correct number is 15, but I ran out of fingers to count!

Actually, the first thought that struck me when I read NotMe's post was that it was Rich -- using another name so that it would be purely his opinion and not be confused as an advisory from the Moderator.

Note that the word "moderation" appears in the original post.

Rich, pls don't get offended if I'm wrong.

The main reason I keep this forum as my homepage is all the funny and witty stuff that keeps popping up. I used to visit the Mandolin Cafe but all they seemed to talk about was different kinds of mandolins, what strings & picks people used, etc, yawn. I could only take in so much technical wittering, since my Mando purchasing needs were quickly satiated.

Here I can get a bit of whistle hardware chat and information, and bit of tune & other music related chat, plus a load of laughs, and I've met some really nice people along the way (group hug for the whole board, aaah!).Image

So I don't mind the noise, it's all a bit of fun.

Hello Folks,

I figured I'd jump right in here.

I have no problem with OT.

You want OT?

Check out...

http://www.frenzy.com/~jester/racecar.html

It reminds me of a bunch of Ewoks from Star Wars.

I also have no problem with on-topic too.

C&F has been around for awhile now. Most of the on-topic info can be found in the archives.

It is good getting to know you folks' great sense of humor and also the serious professional side.

There's hope for us whoa folk. We have a life outside of the whistle addition.

(I was going to correct my typo of addition to addiction. Decided to leave it)

C&F has personality.

That's All Folks

Well NotMe,

See what ya done gone and did!!! We had all the silliness corraled in one spot and you had to open the gate. If you've found some good info in the other post that you'd like to bring to light start another thread. It's not that tough.

Gotta go. Baking a cake for that poor scrawny Corr girl.

Tell us something.: I became interested in the beauty and versatility of Irish whistles and music over 20 years ago when I first found the Chiff boards. Yes, I do have WHOA, and I love my whistles. :)

Is anyone else besides me having an impossible time getting this page to work? It sounds great and I wish it would come up!

It's not me. Erm, notme is not me. Uh, the poster that started this thread is not me.

Dammit. Ah, I know.

I am not the person that started this thread.

There we go! And you can rest assured I won't post under a pseudonym.

(Donning moderator cap, I'd like to see it not become a trend, though -- and please keep in mind that it's pretty easy for me to find out who it is.)

I agree that there can be a lot of nonsense in some posts. In fact, I was busy waxing my hamster yesterday and my wife came in and said "Dear, did you remember to call Colin Goldie?". Well, in fact I hadn't, so I went into the garage, where I got distracted and started finishing up a whistle in C for a customer. Later that night, after the natives had pitched their teepees, we all settled down for a beer and discussed.... uh....I forget.

Ok rich,

What do you think about this: if one more person posts anonomously (ie. has two identities) then you reveal them all - including Porridge.

Can you imagine the huge catharsis potential. There's people on this list that have not eaten since the whole Porridge debacle. Look at Ms. Corr, for instance.

I better stop.

Do you wax hamsters as an alternative to shaving them? Or to reduce friction (as with surfboards)? Or to make them shiny for the parade down Main Street? Or to tweak them so they'll sound better?

Or all four at once?

I'm confident a fine person like you doesn't use hamster-based flooring materials, so I know it's not that.

Inquiring minds want to know,

John
