Slow Piping and Violin Duets
Hi Fellow Pipers,
I am new to the forum and I am very interested to find some slow duets for the violin and upipes -- perhaps with piano accompaniment or other.
The music doesn't necessarily have to be TRAD, but it has to be beautiful. If you know of any duets like this, I appreciate your response.
Thanks for your help!

Hi PiperDog and welcome from the Peaks, try this site for session music:
http://www.thesession.org/index.php
and also try Radio 2's virtual session:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/folk/sessions/
you might find something there that you cna both play although they aren't written in duet form.
Happy hunting

1 A nearby sink with cold running water and a drain large enough to accomodate large chunks, also, a toothbrush and toothpaste or mouthwash.
2 A sharp knife or razor, and a bathtub, just to keep it tidy.
3 A 12 bore and a stick to reach the trigger if your arm isn't long enough to reach it while positioned in your mouth.
4 A very high place with a very hard surface below and clear access to the edge of it.
5 A boat, an anchor, a deep body of water, and a length of strong rope attached to said weight, suitable for tying around your neck.

Hi FancyPiper et All,
The Tabhair Dom Do Lamh by Rory Dall sounds interesting. Do you happen to have a sound sample (mp3) by chance? I would love to hear it.
Royce, if I didn't know you better (I really don't know you at all, do I want to? ), I'd say you had a real distaste for that Liam O'Flynn tune!
Those old wax recordings on your site look very interesting. I'll have to install real player and hear what they sound like.
I guess what I am looking for is a hauntingly beautiful melody. Once I've got that, I can make an arrangement of it. So I am looking for an awesome melody -- one that might be appealing to a broad audience -- not to just pure drop, hardcore trad lovers -- but for a wider audience, and include pipes, fiddle, whistle, cello, etc in the arrangement. Song has to be slow, but moving.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your creativity!

Hi PiperDog,
Do you intend to play these tunes on the pipes yourself or do you just want to get them down on paper? If you intend playing them yourself, have you been playing long? Maybe you'd be better learning a tune first before inflicting it on some poor unassuming fiddler or piano player
Patrick.

Hi Patrick,
I wish to arrange something that I can play and would work with my other performing friends in the future. I'd like to get the notes down in my Sonar software and write some additional arrangements for duets or even trios down the road that we could perform in public. We are all working on learning our instruments, but when we have something to work towards, we have made some amazing music together that has been very satisfying.
Eran,
Would you have any links where to find some sound clips for this great list of songs you've provided?
Everyone,
Again, this can go way beyond the bounds of pure dop trad.
I appreciate all the suggestions!
Best,
PDog

Unfortunately all the really neat slow airs I've heard, I can't remember the name of. But there's a really great one on The Irish Pipes of Finbar Furey, I think it's in his Foxchase set, the one he uses as the lament for the little dead fox.
Royce
(I don't know how it would come off on a fiddle, but it's everything a pipe air should be.)
