Come on with that review Glauber!
I have been looking at Clive's site quite a lot recently,I guess I like the idea of versatile small hole flutes that will play Baroque(admittedly at 440) and trad.
Also, that Rippert model at 392 (really a 'C' flute in modern terms) intrigues me,especially as my copy of Hotteterre's 'Principles of the Flute,R*c*rd*r and Oboe' originally written in 1707,arrived last week.

Book written 1707,arrived last week-I knew our postal service was getting worse!! :boggle:

Boxwood oil requirements

Post by TheGrixxly »

Sorry, I thought I hit new topic...

All,

I was wondering if Boxwood soaks up more oil than Blackwood. My new flute seems a little 'dry' compared to my Blackwood Hammy. The humidity here is high so I don't think that's it. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tony

It's certainly not nearly as resinous, anyway. My dogwood flute --also not resinous-- reacts noticeably to humidity levels, but it's quite dense and hard.

Glauber - I'll look forward to the review of Clive's Ordinary flute. As you may recall, I've been drooling over one of those for quite some time!

BTW - Glad you made it!

Look forward to the review. Thanks

P. S. I may have a review to post in a couple
of weeks, too.

glauber wrote:So i made it, i think. I've been feeling like i'm spreading myself too thin and doing too much of this Internet thing. I wanted to see how hard it would be to stay away. As it turns out, not very hard.

Actually this worked out better than i had expected. After reading the messages in this thread, i don't feel much like hanging out here anyway. You guys can be really brutal.

Dave, the American Army needs you for an important job in "Camp Happiness", the modern hospitality center they're building across the street from Abu Ghreib. More details in the political thread in the other forum.
Glauber -

Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings old boy. If I did, my apologies. The lines I used are quite common among many of the people I play with. Nobody means it; it just keeps us loose, sort of like “you’re mamma’s so fat” jokes.
But I can see that some people don’t like it. Those types of jokes aren’t for everyone. We're all different. Sorry, again. (don't anyone start playing "We Are The World" now!).

But I was really hoping you would come back with an ocarina joke as
opposed to that dreadful situation overseas. I was playing the ocarina
all day as it turned out and ...
I just had a craving for linguine and meatballs
Gotta go.

I make no apologies. :D Ok, maybe a small one.

It was intended as VERY tongue in cheek, as I am still aspiring to approximate the sounds of an asthmatic cat on my flute. (Never mind the feis competition experience I had over the weekend!)

Glad to see you back :)

Wow, yeah, that would be really cool! I think that's a very difficult aspiration, though. I'm not even sure Matt Molloy could make that kind of sound come out of a flute!!
