Has anyone been in touch with Davy Stephenson lately? His website is gone and I know he has had some health problems over the past year. Is he OK? Is he still making pipes?

Another board member P.M.ed me the other day,asking me the same question.I could only truthfully reply that I had had no contact with Davy myself since he personally delivered my practice set at the end of Dec. 2003.
I hope that everything is o.k. with Davy.

He appears to have forgotten his domain registration, since 'dig bagpipeworks.com' returns sod all. Hmm. I'm still waiting for a practice set kit, ordered back in May last year, delivery 'within a month' (then two, then several, then before Christmas...). Oh well, moral, don't pay in full. Even if recommended

I'm waiting too

My order was placed last March(C chanter) and May(adding keys to my D Chanter)and both are fully payed. Almost a year passed since then.I got a email from him last September.
I hope that he is in good health and tying to recover his delay.
Is he reachable by phone these days?

I spoke to him about a month ago, however a lot can happen in a month. He said that he is trying very hard to get caught up on his work. He also mentioned that he no longer making kits, but I don't think that includes back orders.

He is a very pleasant fellow to chat with, I hope he is ok.

Agreed. I spoke with him about 7 weeks ago and unfortunately it appears he hasn't been able to overcome his personal problems. I too grow tired of excuses on a prepaid chanter order that was to be shipped nearly two years ago.

Nice sounding chanter, Xeluis. Nice playing too. I wonder why holly isn't used more like boxwood. Anyone have links for pictures of holly, finished or unfinished? It's been a while since I've seen it on Davy's web site. I wonder how it holds up...warping, shrinking, curing, etc.

I have one of Davy's Holly chanters,and I love it! I liked the look of Holly (I'm a Boxwood fan too),but the sound of Xelius's clip swung the deal for me.
I knew that Holly was a hard wood that took well too fine modelling-it was used for woodcut printing blocks in the past,and it also has a certain natural springiness- hence it's use for toolhandles.
Davy told me that the wood takes a long time to cure,but then it is very stable-well more stable than Box anyway!

I spoke to Davy about possibally haveing a Holly Half set made. He said that he has some beautiful pieces of holly with blue and green in them. He also told me that although he thinks ebony make better chanters, he also feels you get a sweeter tone on the drones with Holly.
