proof that you don't have to be embarrassed
I have conclusive proof that C&F participation no longer need be something that we reluctantly own up to. We can go out and boast about it.
I just found out that I'm getting a major award, and that my participation in C&F was actually mentioned in the nomination. A (probably small) factor in the selection is community involvement. Evidently my boss googled me and found a whistle review or something from the C&F site. He called my wife and asked about C&F, and it was included in the nomination.
Thanks, Dale!

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps. - Location: Lefse country

Congratulations.
Its also proof of why its better to stay away from the Dark Side (OT political and religious threads). Our bosses (I no longer have one, fortunately) might be less impressed by some to the OT stuff we've posted than by something nice like a review.
My last boss was a staunch conservative that thought Bush 1 was a sellout. If he'd seen some of the stuff I've posted here and on other groups, I might not have stayed employed long enough to retire. Fortunately, his saurian tendencies also included massive distrust of the 'Net in particular and computers in general.

Details here (I won in applied science):Nanohedron wrote:Cool! Details, Charlie, details!

A former winner and Nobel Laureate is the banquet speaker; I'm strongly suspicious that one of this year's winners in pure science will be winning a Nobel before too long. (Note: I'm by no means in the same league as these people, just flattered and excited.)
And, Chuck, I realize how lucky I am to have cool bosses. When I first started, and search engines were in their infancy, the same guy searched for me on Yahoo, and the first thing that turned up was a recipe for blackberry stout that appeared in the Cat's Meow, which he had a good chuckle over. I believe he's had one or two of those in the ensuing years, too.

Congrats!!
BTW-- do a google search on Klingon Stout, and you'll find a Cat's Meow recipe of mine too. Great minds work alike...

Googled myself
Oh my,
Just Googled myself (first time ever) and hey there's more people out there with my name than I thought there were. Sort of weird and scary, I too showed up on C&F, (although not identified by my avatar name) and was also listed on a couple of other sites, hmm, maybe I'd better start thinking about what I say out there.... maybe
