The Breton Breeze - Played By Mick Woodruff

Post by raindog1970 »

Mick has finally gotten around to posting some new material on his website, and his most recent submission 'The Breton Breeze' is in my opinion one of his very best ever!
For those who don't know him (and for those who do know him, but thought he must have fallen off the face of the Earth ;)), check out his website... always an inspiration!

Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

Tell us something.: Used to live in Gilbert, AZ which is a suburb of Phoenix. Recently moved to Portland OR. Argh. Not sure if this is meeting the requirement of number of characters, but I'm trying.

I believe it's also known as "Cahir's Kitchen" by Paddy Keenan & Tommy O'Sullivan from "The Long Grazing Acre" CD.

'Tis superbly played though - as usual :)

Great moosic site indeed, and I see it has commercial sponsors too!

The best is the ad for Acme Baldness Cure:

Before :( Image 8) After

PS: I see they have the same photographer, so is it the same Acme company as Acme Rosicrucians' Research Center?
It's true: I read it on Internet.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

Thank you, E_D_F, for that bit of information. I learned the tune listening to the "Gogarty's Music" CD, and it is played there by Tommy Keane. It is not accredited to Paddy Keenan on the CD but simply listed as, "traditional". Anyway, I'm glad you liked my rendition.

Thanks to you all for your kind words, especially Gary, who spotted the new addition to my website quicker than anyone else. :-)

And, FJohnSharp, the Q1 whistle is made by Alba and it hints at the name, "Quiet one", though in my opinion it really isn't all that quiet, especially in the upper octave.
