Flute AND whistle AND ?

Post by BillG »

I posted this poll on the wistle board and was told many fluters don't often go there so I'm adding this survey here.

I found a number of names of both boards and wondered how many play more than one or only one of the flute, whistle, and now adding pipes.

Thanx for joining and being counted.

I voted for flute and whistle, but I was sorely tempted to buy a set of smallpipes a few weeks ago. A local player has taken to make very nice pipes and was setting next to me at the local session playing a set.

So far I've resisted the tempation mainly based on the fact I want to buy an octave mandolin.

I'm just posting that my Any Of The Above AND Pipes vote refers to Highland pipes, not uilleann. I'm not so coordinated as to be able to play uilleann pipes... not yet anyways.

Cheers,
Aaron

I started on whistle, then flute, then pipes but haven't played the whistle in public for about 20 years. Flutes in D, B flat & E flat, pipes in B, C & D.

This is a bit interesting. I used to visit the whistle board once a day before, when I just played the whistles, but since I started playing flute about a year (or something :-? ) ago, I haven't visited it much at all. I wonder why. This place seems a bit more quiet, smaller and more at home for me. We don't have nearly as many OT posts and not as many flame wars. The whistle board is certainly very nice, but each time I go there to check the place out, there are like 3 pages of new posts :boggle: . It doesn't seem so interesting anymore to discuss whistles, I just play them.

Now, was that OT or what :D

My father plays the clarinet and he has a beautiful one here. I just took it up and looked at it, and guess what is stamped nicely into 3 of the sections: Boosey and Hawkes London.
My, do I which it was a Flute  . It looks like cocus wood it's made of, a very dark brown with the most beautiful redish brown grain. I have no idea of when it's made. It says 79629 on the LH section.
I wonder what the key work is made of.

Haven't figured out the poll function, but ... flute & whistle

All the pipers I've met thus far are lovely whistle players; have you posted this poll on the pipe board? It'd be interesting .....
