Well, if you're going to get drunk and puke on their shoes, then a Pogues number or two would definitely be in order.

Postscript: I just remembered I played "La Cucaracha" on Highland pipes at a funeral. Ironically, it was for a pair of shoes...

Yes, the Pogues. Either : 'If I should fall from the grace of God' or 'Bottle of Smoke'. Tommy K., if you are familiar with the MN Ren Fest band Morrigan, perhaps their song 'Puking in the Heather'.

This thread shows the elitist nature of some players.......just play the music, with a smile, thank your stars you've got pipes and the sense to play them and an appreciative audience. If they want "Happy Birthday" or the theme song from Seseme Street, sit down and play it or go away and let someone else do it. If you feel like you are too good to play the tunes people want to hear, perhaps they are too good to listen to you. Be a good representative of all pipers, play the tunes the listeners want and recognize, slip in a few they've never heard and help to educte them a bit. This talk about puking on their shoes shows something distressing about the state of piping.

U2's "M.L.K"., off The Unforgetable Fire album makes a good slow aire. The Pogues', "I'm a Man You Don't Meet Every Day" actually has Uilleann pipes. A Pair of Brown Eyes makes another good one too.

Ipiper, good point. If you're going to play to an audience, play to the audience. If what they like to hear is too maudlin for you to stomach, stick to sessions with like-minded people.

I have been of the opinion throughout this thread, that all responses have been in good humor...nothing more. It's the joking around aspect of what to play. C'mon, lighten up...then have a good puke, no matter whos shoes it may be on.
