I've been told that playing a cane or bamboo
flute outside in the cold would reduce it
to splinters, the inner warmth combined with
outer chill. Any comments? I have my
doubts.

Did you hear the sound samples for that bass flute on eBay? Amazing! I gotta have one... as soon as my flute fund is replenished, which should take 6 months or so...

Of course one of the things this guy has going for him is that he's a fantastic player. That bass flute, how fast he plays that thing! Also, the solo on the F#m flute on eBay, "My Favourite Things" could have come straight out of a [insert famous flutist name here] album.

Romy has a lucid and innovative approach to discursive expression
which is also music to my ears
I think his flute finger holes premised on the natural minor
rather than the major is worth applause
I would like to invite him to talk
about other scale customised flutes.

For instance, I prefer my flute tonics to be from
here:-
XXX OOO
or
XXO OOO
or
OXOO OOO
or
OXX OOO
or
OOO OOO
which allow below tonic dips
so vital in the decor of my music.
So i am going to ask him here.

I already have 4 (yes 4 8) ) D bhairav scale flutes (PVC)
D Eb F# G A Bb C# D+

XxXX oOOO
XxXO oOOO
XoXO oOOO
OoOO xXXX
XxXX xXXX
XxXX xXXO
XxXX xOOO
XxXX oOOO+

This is one of those scales
(unlike the common plainsong six)
that CANNOT be done on simple system flutes
without cross fingering or half holing.

WARNING: I know very little about flutes, and have only been 'playing' flute for a week. My embouchure is as tight and precise as a pair of curtains flapping in a stiff breeze, and I wouldn't know a "dry, buzzy, reedy tone" if it bit me on the 'arris. I am a rank beginner and my opinions in respect of flutes are worthless...

You could try here: http://www.bamboozle.org.uk/FLUTES.htm

They seem very reasonably priced (I ordered the low D last week, should have it some time this week). I can let you know what they're really like when mine arrives (see warning above!).
