Tell us something.: Ready to be a decent flute player again! I took a break of about 17 years and it's been way too long.

Just one?

I would also have to go with "Live at Matt Molloy's". It's the style of playing I'm striving for, if but for a moment before I die.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Grrr...I just hate these questions. Couldn't you do some kind of High Fidelity-esque Top 5 or something? That would be a lot easier.

Hmm...Well, if pushed, I guess it would be Marcas O Murchu's "O beal go bheal" if we're talking strictly Irish trad. Otherwise, it would probably be a coin toss between that and Jean-Michel Veillon's "Er Pasker."

DOES THIS EXIST?

Any Irish flute recording WITHOUT guitar chords,
possibly with voice and harp only.
No jigs or reels - just AIRS .....

For a flute album with mostly airs, you could check out Desi Wilkinson's latest CD, "Shady Woods."

If limited to commercial recordings, I would toss another bid for Catherine McEvoy's CD. Like Brad said, the sound on the CD isn't half as good as what Catherine sounds like live and in-your-face, but it still has Catherine's wonderful touch to it.

Recordings of Peadar O'Loughlin's flute playing would also do it for me.

The Black album is mighty tempting as are a dozen others. Right now, though, it's Conal O Grada's The Top of Coom for it's energy and for his tone which I just love. I've heard this one referred to as the most 'caffeinated' record ever made.
Where did you find Conal's CD? I've been trying to find it. I checked Custy's but their search engine leaves a lot to be desired...

Thanks,
Tony

I checked and it's still in stock.

What you need to put a :) on your face is 'Tailor's choice' by Joe Burke. It is almost ALL slow airs,it has HARP (Marie Ni Chathasaigh) and NO guitar chords!
Joe plays a wonderful, original Boxwood Ruddal and Rose flute.
Maybe I should have chosen this album after all!

I'm glad to see others choosing things that aren't solely flute music. I would pick something by Deanta -- either Ready for the Storm or Whisper of a Secret. They had a harp but no guitar too.
