I don't understand how the caucuses work for sure, with the different systems between demos and repubs, or how many are uncommitted this year in Iowa, but in '76 Carter beat his five Democratic opponents in Iowa, and won the primary in NH. I wonder if the uncommitted remain that way at the convention.

CNN has an updated chart showing the total number of delegates for each of this year's candidates, including today's results. When all the states are totalled up, they still give the most delegates to Dean.
Dean-112
Kerry-95
Edwards-36
Clark-30
Lieberman-25
Sharpton-4
Kucinich-2

Check it out here:

BTW, I was reading a news report that the Dean camp stiffed a deli in Iowa for a bill of over $900. The owner said he's changing his vote this fall. :D

I second that

I second Brigitte's post: unbiased viewpoints are not esp. difficult to get here in Germany/UK (i read papers from both countries) but I'm not sure how to judge the bias on american reporting -- having little experience in this.

It would be interesting to read stuff that people in the US see as unbiased, objective reporting, to get an 'insider' view of things.

The Christian Science Monitor is known for being
unbiased, as mentioned above. Available online, I think.

Believe Dean has been campaigning hard nation wide and
his people are saying that a large number of his
supporters are rock solid, so that over the long haul
his chances in the primaries remain strong. Remains
a horse race, I think.

I think Dean is in trouble.

"In a further sign of distress, the one-time front-runner implemented
costcutting measures as he looked ahead to a series of costly primaries
and caucuses, asking staff to defer their paychecks for two weeks."

"I think you are going to see a leaner, meaner organization," Dean told
reporters Wednesday night. "We had geared up for what we thought
would be a front-runner's campaign. It's not going to be a front-runner's
campaign. It's going to be a long, long war of attrition."
(AP)

Today, he fired his campaign manager Trippi and replaced him with Roy
Neel, a WA insider and X-Gore man.

a good replacement?

I am a republican, voted for Bush and like many of the things he's done, but he SCARES me :o sometimes. I was kinda hoping for a Democratic canidate I could support to take his place. I haven't been impressed yet by any of them. One hasn't broken free of the pack yet. Kerry is trying. It's a weak group I'm afraid. Right now I think I would take Lieberman as my next President. He at least, I believe is HONEST. That may be his downfall.

It's pretty sensitive on some questions - moving from "Somewhat favor" to "favor" on a couple of questions moves Bush from 5th place to 1st place on tne list it generated for me. The final ranking order was correct, but I would have put the lower four on the list at a LOT lower match percentage.

What I got:

100 Bush
86 Lieberman
74 Kerry
74 Edwards
73 Clark
69 Dean
61 Sharpton
58 Kucinich

All it took to move Lieberman up to the top and Bush to 5th place again was to change the relative weighting of "social" and "security" issues.

Which may actually show something about the way this election will turn out - rightly or wrongly, most of the Democratic candidates are perceived as "weak on defense", while Bush is perceived as "weak on social issues".

And this next election, in part, will hinge on which the swing voters deem most important. My 2 cents worth.

If it's Dean he'll lose the middle. If it's somebody closer
to the center he may not appear to enough people
to be substantially different from Bush. Unless
things go badly wrong in Iraq, it will be hard
to run effectively against the war on the
ground that we should have invaded, but
we've handled it badly. At the end
of the day it'll be a referendum on the economy,
I reckon. So if we're not in recession, I wager
it'll be Bush. If nothing pops open...

Hey, that was fun:

Bush 100
Edwards 69
Kerry 67
Lieberman 67
Dean 61
Clark 58
Sharpton 55
Kucinich 52

Truth be told, I could be happy and support any of the top four. I disagree strongly with several of the issues in each of the candidates' platform (even though they ranked Bush at 100, there are things that I'd like to see him doing better) but I think that we could all get along at a birthday party :) I don't know, Jens. Did you accidently write yours backwards? ;)

Oh the agony............... I must be surrounded by (gulp, blink)

"c.o.n.s.e.r.v.a.t.i.v.e.s."

I took this questionaire and I don't remember the last few in order, except the very last one- Bush. My top politicos were, according to that link-

Kucinich
Kerry
Dean
Edwards

Frankly I'm going with the new little phrase I heard on the news Tues. night-

ABB (anybody BUT Bush)
"Let low-country intruder approach a cove
And eyes as gray as icicle fangs measure stranger
For size, honesty, and intent."
