One way to brainstorm is to use googlism. I typed in the name of your town:
http://www.googlism.com/index.htm?ism=huntsville&type=1

First entry is:
huntsville is 'dreamtown'

So I would like that to be part of the name. How about "The Dreamtown Celtic Band." Easy to promote, abbreviate, and I would wager that it is not taken.

Tell us something.: I've been with Chiff and Fipple since shortly after I bought my first low D. I've learned loads from this community, and I intend to continue to learn and contribute. Many thanks to Dale and everyone who makes this site happen.

Well there you go. What's the lady's name? You've got four guys and a woman, right? If her name is Kate, you could play off the "fate" angle and be The Four Winds of Kate.

You could do a take off on Led Zeppelin. How about The Led Fipplers, or just plain Led Generation. :D

Sorry, "The Scutterin' sh*t" is already taken. It's a local ad hoc band name occasionally in use.

One that I don't think you can have... (I like it too much for if I ever play with my guitarist again in public):

We were trying to name our church band a while back. We considered all the typical criticisms: too loud, too much drums, etc.

Name we came up with: Negative Feedback.

How 'bout "The Band Which Will Remain Nameless"? :D
"Put": the act of placing something in a specific spot.
"Putt": the vain attempt to do the same thing.

I recall back when The National Lampoon was actually funny...there was a list of reportedly genuine band names. Two of my favorites: "Roman Holiday and the Ouchtones", and "The Clogs of Isis".

You could use a band name generator. There are three links on this page to generators: http://www.afm.org/public/musicbiz/band ... erator.php

There's also a page full of links to contra dance and old time bands. You wouldn't want to copy them but you might get some inspiriation. Two I like are the String Beings and Carnival Knowledge. Anybody who was following Bretton's thread on Cripple Creek might want to check out the link to the New Pilot Mountaineers at this page.

One of my favourite band names is The New Crusty Nostrils. I'm not sure where it came from.

ROTFLMAO!

I'd use it in a second, but I'll bet the committee will never go for it. You're probably safe. Several of the others are pretty good too. We may be onto something. Thanks a bunch.

Great idea. We hadn't thought of using googlisms.

Another great (and endless) resource for random band and/or album titles is the Googlewhack "stack" at http://www.googlewhack.com/tally.pl.

Have fun!

Be seeing you,

eric.
