One way to brainstorm is to use googlism. I typed in the name of your town:
http://www.googlism.com/index.htm?ism=huntsville&type=1
First entry is:
huntsville is 'dreamtown'
So I would like that to be part of the name. How about "The Dreamtown Celtic Band." Easy to promote, abbreviate, and I would wager that it is not taken.

- Tell us something.: I've been with Chiff and Fipple since shortly after I bought my first low D. I've learned loads from this community, and I intend to continue to learn and contribute. Many thanks to Dale and everyone who makes this site happen.

- Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.
Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps. - Location: Lefse country

We were trying to name our church band a while back. We considered all the typical criticisms: too loud, too much drums, etc.
Name we came up with: Negative Feedback.
How 'bout "The Band Which Will Remain Nameless"?

"Put": the act of placing something in a specific spot.
"Putt": the vain attempt to do the same thing.

You could use a band name generator. There are three links on this page to generators: http://www.afm.org/public/musicbiz/band ... erator.php
There's also a page full of links to contra dance and old time bands. You wouldn't want to copy them but you might get some inspiriation. Two I like are the String Beings and Carnival Knowledge. Anybody who was following Bretton's thread on Cripple Creek might want to check out the link to the New Pilot Mountaineers at this page.

One of my favourite band names is The New Crusty Nostrils. I'm not sure where it came from.

Great idea. We hadn't thought of using googlisms.

Another great (and endless) resource for random band and/or album titles is the Googlewhack "stack" at http://www.googlewhack.com/tally.pl.
Have fun!
Be seeing you,
eric.
