What whistle do you play the most?

Post by jonharl »

We haven't done one of these for awhile and I thought it time to update our list. What whistle do you play the most and where? For me it's a Gary Humphrey Retrofit Head on a Feadog body in the minivan at stoplights and waiting for the kids to get in the car when I pick them up from school. (that could be a bit too much info, but you know how we perfectionists can get-it's in the details) So give me some details you guys.

My Overton low D. And for high whistles, my self tweaked Feadog.

Copeland low D (brass) and high D (nickel), usually either at home or at rehearsals or at gigs. most of the time I just play while I'm watching a movie, that way I get 2 hrs a day of practice and I see lots of movies too.

Whichever ones I haven't sent out yet... most of the time I sorta hate to see them go, so I play them a lot before shipping.

Tell us something.: Used to live in Gilbert, AZ which is a suburb of Phoenix. Recently moved to Portland OR. Argh. Not sure if this is meeting the requirement of number of characters, but I'm trying.

Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

It has just changed. I now play my one piece Nickel Clare D completely un-tweaked more than the others. It is followed closely by my Feadan D which appears to be very similar to the Clare, perhaps an ancestor. The others most often played are a self tweaked Feadog D and a self tweaked Gen D. The others get played when I feel like it. I usually play at my computer desk in my office/den/family room/spare bedroom.

I really like this Clare. It is easy to play in the first and second octave and even into the 3rd octave. I think I will order an Oak D since so many have commented on the sound of the Oak.

Keep whistling
Ron
